Prime Video’s ‘Life Is Strange’ Series Casts Maisy Stella & Tatum Grace Hopkins As Chloe & Max

by Dave Elliott

Prime Video’s live-action adaptation of the hit video game franchise Life Is Strange has found its central duo, with Maisy Stella (My Old Ass) and Tatum Grace Hopkins (The Queen of Versailles) set to star as Chloe and Max.

The series, created by Charlie Covell (The End of the F**ing World*, KAOS), brings the beloved Square Enix game to life as a character-driven mystery with a supernatural twist.

The story follows Max, played by Hopkins, a photography student who discovers she has the extraordinary ability to rewind time after saving the life of her childhood best friend Chloe, played by Stella. As Max begins experimenting with her strange new power, the pair become drawn into the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student. Their investigation gradually exposes a darker side to their town, forcing them to confront a devastating life-or-death decision that could change everything.

The original game, developed by Dontnod Entertainment and released in 2015, became a breakout hit thanks to its emotional storytelling, branching narrative choices, and the dynamic relationship between Max and Chloe. The franchise has since expanded into multiple sequels and spin-offs, building a dedicated global fanbase.

Covell serves as creator, showrunner and executive producer on the adaptation. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and comes from Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. Executive producers include Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson for Story Kitchen.

On the casting side, Stella recently starred in Megan Park’s acclaimed coming-of-age film My Old Ass, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and will next appear in Maude Apatow’s upcoming directorial debut Poetic License. Hopkins has previously appeared on Broadway in The Queen of Versailles and For the Girls, and featured in the short film Meek, which screened at the Montclair Film Festival.
