‘Family Guy‘ is expanding once again, as Fox has ordered a new spinoff series focused on the show’s diabolically intelligent toddler. Titled ‘Stewie‘, the animated comedy will follow the Griffins’ British-accented baby genius as he embarks on surreal adventures involving time travel, science, and the chaos of preschool.
The new show comes from Seth MacFarlane (The Orville, Ted) and longtime Family Guy writer-producer Kirker Butler. Fox has already given the series a two-season order, with the project currently targeting the 2027–2028 broadcast season. Episodes will stream the next day on Hulu in the US and internationally on Disney+.
The spinoff places Stewie in a new preschool after being kicked out of his previous one. Unfortunately for him, the replacement school isn’t exactly elite. Surrounded by unfamiliar classmates and a 75-year-old class turtle who has an opinion on everything, Stewie initially finds the situation unbearable. That changes when he begins using his various inventions to escape the mundane routine, dragging the class along for bizarre trips across space and time.
While the series will introduce a new school setting and new characters, it won’t replace Stewie’s role in ‘Family Guy’, where he continues to attend Quahog Preschool. The new show will exist alongside the main series, occasionally referencing events and elements fans already know. His beloved teddy bear Rupert will appear, and Brian the dog is expected to make guest appearances.
The character has evolved significantly across Family Guy’s long run. Early seasons focused on Stewie’s obsession with world domination and his plans to eliminate his mother Lois. Over time, the character softened into something stranger and more complex, leaning more heavily into his scientific genius, multiverse gadgets, and his often bizarre friendship with Brian.
The spinoff also slots neatly into Fox’s long-term animation strategy. In 2025, the network struck an unprecedented four-season renewal deal covering ‘Family Guy’, ‘American Dad!’, ‘The Simpsons’, and ‘Bob’s Burgers’, keeping all four shows running through 2029. Adding Stewie to the mix means Fox’s animated lineup now effectively has a fifth pillar for the rest of the decade.
MacFarlane will once again voice Stewie in the series and executive produce through his Fuzzy Door production company alongside Butler, who will serve as showrunner, and Kara Vallow. The show is produced by 20th Television Animation.

Butler added: “I am honoured and humbled that Seth, 20th Television Animation, and Fox have trusted me with one of the most iconic animated characters in the history of television. I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name.”
The series marks the second spinoff from Family Guy, following The Cleveland Show, which ran on Fox for four seasons between 2009 and 2013.
More than two decades after its debut, Family Guy remains a major performer for Fox and streaming platforms. The series recently passed its 450th episode, and Nielsen data shows it generated over 3 billion minutes watched in 2025, making it one of the most-streamed adult animated series.
‘Stewie’ does not yet have a premiere date but is expected to land during the 2027–2028 season on Fox in the US and Disney+ in the UK.
