‘Dexter: Resurrection‘ isn’t done with Charley just yet, as Uma Thurman (Kill Bill) is set to reprise the role for Season 2 of the Showtime drama.
Thurman joined the first season as Charley, a former Special Ops officer who worked as the right-hand woman to Leon Prater, played by Peter Dinklage (Game Of Thrones). By the end of the season, after discovering Prater’s betrayal, Charley had fled the city with her mother, seemingly putting some distance between herself and the chaos. Apparently not enough distance, though, because she’ll now be back for the second run.
That return raises an obvious question over where Charley fits into the story next. With Prater out of the picture, she could end up as an uneasy ally for Dexter, or become yet another problem in a city already filling up with them. In true Dexter fashion, “complicated” feels like the safe bet.
The Thurman news follows the recent casting of Brian Cox (Succession), who is set to play Don Frampt, better known as the elusive New York Ripper. The character is described as a serial killer who terrorised New York years ago and, while no longer active, has apparently found a new way to keep himself infamous by taunting survivors from his earlier murder spree. Which, really, sounds exactly like the sort of nightmare situation Dexter has a habit of stumbling into.
Season 1 of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ picked up weeks after Dexter Morgan took a bullet to the chest from his own son. Waking from a coma to find Harrison missing, Dexter headed to New York in search of him, hoping to somehow make things right. Naturally, this being Dexter, things did not exactly settle down from there. With Angel Batista closing in and both father and son wrestling with their own darkness, the series pushed them deeper into trouble in a city that was never likely to offer either of them a clean escape.
Alongside Michael C. Hall (Dexter), the first season also starred Jack Alcott (The Good Lord Bird), David Zayas (Gotham), Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (The Chi), Kadia Saraf (Law & Order: SVU), Dominic Fumusa (Nurse Jackie), Emilia Suárez, and James Remar (Black Lightning). Guest stars included Neil Patrick Harris (Uncoupled), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family), and David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil).
Clyde Phillips continues as showrunner and executive producer, with Michael C. Hall also executive producing alongside Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Veronica West, Kirsa Rein, Tanner Bean, and Katrina Mathewson. Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios produce the series.
There is still no logline for Season 2, so for now, the exact shape of Charley’s return is being kept quiet.
