Channel 4 has announced the cast for ‘Wrong Move‘, a brand-new 6-part darkly comic thriller from Roughcut Television, the production company behind Little Disasters, Coma and Big Boys, with filming now underway in West Yorkshire.
Created and written by Ben Edwards (Coma, Miss Scarlet & The Duke), the 6-episode series follows a group of people caught in the chaos of a collapsing property chain. Because, as anyone who has ever tried to move house knows, it is already one of the most stressful things a human can willingly do to themselves. Add in a dangerous sociopath, crumbling relationships, desperate buyers, and one very badly timed decision, and things start looking rather less like Location, Location, Location and rather more like Location, Location, Psychological Damage.
Leading the cast is David Thewlis (Fargo, The Artful Dodger) as Trevor, a dangerous sociopath whose vengeful tendencies drive him to terrorise the homebuyers at the centre of the story. Trevor’s last-minute decision to pull out of a house sale sends shockwaves through the entire property chain, but it is his manipulative nature that proves even more unsettling. David Bradley (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones) also features as Arthur, Trevor’s father.
Rory Kinnear (Bank of Dave, The Diplomat) stars as Michael, whose patience is pushed to breaking point as the chain begins to fall apart. Eve Myles (Gone, The Guest) plays Catherine, Michael’s wife, who is desperately hoping that a move into their dream “forever home” might help rescue their marriage. Their family is rounded out by Austin Haynes (Adolescence, Unforgivable) as son Jack, whose role in the unfolding crisis proves more significant than anyone expects, and Daisy Morgan (Giant, The Power) as his sister Molly.
Also caught in the carnage are Eleanor Tomlinson (One Day, Poldark) as Stella and Gwyneth Keyworth (Death Valley, Lost Boys & Fairies) as her partner Juliette, who are preparing for the arrival of their first child while attempting to navigate the chaos caused by Trevor’s decision.
At the other end of the property ladder, Ali Khan (Everyone Else Burns, A Haunting in Venice) plays Asif, a first-time buyer whose hopes of a fresh start with partner Emily, played by Evie Kaisi, are thrown into disarray. Ray Fearon (Champion, Tinsel Town) also joins the cast as Emily’s father Danny.
The wider cast includes Paul Bazely (Such Brave Girls, Amadeus) as DS Berry and Laura Elsworthy (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Plebs) as DC Jenkins, alongside Alex MacQueen (The Thick of It, Seven Dials) as Alistair, an eager estate agent who presumably picked the wrong week to stop saying “it’s a very popular area”.
Packed with twists and turns, ‘Wrong Move’ explores the complicated lives of people trying to take the next step up the property ladder, and the deeply optimistic idea that moving house can fix everything. Unfortunately, as the series rather neatly points out, you can move, but your problems tend to come with you. Usually packed in badly labelled boxes.
‘Wrong Move’ is produced by Roughcut Television for Channel 4. The series was commissioned by Gwawr Lloyd, Interim Head of Drama, and Louise Donald, Commissioning Executive, Drama. It is created and written by Ben Edwards, produced by Rebecca Davies (Protection, Cobra, McDonald & Dodds) and directed by Rene Pannevis (The Tower, Looted). Roughcut executive producers are Ash Atalla and Alex Smith. Fremantle handles international sales.
‘Wrong Move‘ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Channel 4 in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
