Channel 4 has released the first-look images for ‘Hunting Alice Bell’, a new six-part psychological thriller starring Alex Roach (Nightsleeper), Amanda Abbington (Sherlock) and Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible), which launches this autumn.
The series follows Alice Bell, a former nurse who was both the lover and accomplice of a notorious anaesthetist serial killer. She is currently believed to be living somewhere in Britain under a new identity.
When Fran Da Silva is accused online of being Alice Bell, her happy family life implodes under a wave of abuse and mob hatred. Fran then discovers she is not the only woman to have been publicly accused of being the missing killer.
The women band together to fight back, clear their names and uncover the truth. However, as they attempt to prove their innocence, they begin to wonder whether one member of the group is lying and could actually be the real Alice Bell.
Created by David Baddiel and Peter Bradshaw, ‘Hunting Alice Bell’ is described as a psychological thriller built around a whodunnit, with shades of family drama and social satire.
The series explores misogyny, justice, online rumours and mob mentality, along with the devastating consequences that can follow when accusations spread unchecked. All of that sits inside a cliffhanger-filled mystery centred on one major question: who is Alice Bell?
Alex Roach (Nightsleeper) leads the cast as Fran, alongside Amanda Abbington (Sherlock) as Julie, Emily Barber (MobLand) as Vanessa, Toni O’Rourke (God’s Creatures) as Ros, Christina Bennington (Halo) as Charlotte and Rudi Dharmalingam (The Lazarus Project) as Nick.
The cast also includes Ralf Little (Death in Paradise) as Graham Hunter and Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible) as Dr Jason Nash.
The six-part drama was co-written by David Baddiel, Peter Bradshaw, Polly Buckle and Kate Verghese, with Paul Walker directing every episode.
Clapperboard Studios produces the series in association with Sphere Abacus. Mike Benson and Rachel Gesua executive produce for Clapperboard alongside David Baddiel, Peter Bradshaw, Polly Buckle, Jonathan Ford and Will Stapley. Tamryn Reinecke serves as producer, while Sphere Abacus is handling international sales.
