Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters) is back in front of the camera for ‘Youth‘, a new HBO Original comedy following a 50-year-old divorcee trying to find sex and love while also caring for her ailing parents and dealing with a son who should probably be a little more grown up by now.
The eight-episode series lands on HBO Max in September, launching with its first two episodes before switching to a weekly Monday release through to the finale in early November.
HBO’s official logline reads:
“YOUTH follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown up son.”
Horgan stars as Alex, alongside Rupert Friend (Homeland) as Patrick, Sharlene Whyte (Sherwood) as Sam, Aran Murphy (LOLA) as Ruari, and Robbie Gee (Black Ops) as Frank.
Along with starring in the series, Horgan created and writes ‘Youth’, as well as serving as an executive producer. The comedy is produced by Merman, with Faye Dorn, Jim Kleverweis and Dawn Shadforth also executive producing. Shadforth also directs.
The newly released trailer gives us our first proper look at Horgan’s latest comedy, which sounds very much in her wheelhouse: messy relationships, family responsibilities and the general indignities of trying to keep your personal life functioning while everyone around you also needs something.
‘Youth‘ Season 1 premieres Monday, 21st September 2026 on HBO Max UK. It premieres Sunday, September 20th 2026 on HBO/HBO Max in the USA.
