Jeremy Clarkson Goes Back To His Motoring Roots For ‘Jeremy Grows a Car: A Clarkson’s Farm Special’

Jeremy Clarkson is heading back to his motoring roots, although in typically Clarkson fashion, he has found a way to make the whole thing considerably more complicated than simply buying a car.

Prime Video has greenlit ‘Jeremy Grows a Car: A Clarkson’s Farm Special‘, a one-off episode which will see Clarkson attempt to build his own car using materials grown at Diddly Squat Farm. The streamer is billing the project as a world first, combining his farming adventures with the automotive world that made him famous.

Having spent the past few years growing everything from wheat and barley to potatoes, mushrooms and wasabi on ‘Clarkson’s Farm‘, Jeremy has apparently decided that ordinary crops are no longer sufficiently ambitious. The next logical step, obviously, is a Jaguar.

The starting point for the project will be a Jaguar F-Type V6S, chosen by Clarkson as the basis for his attempt to create the sort of car he actually wants to drive. His frustration with modern cars, particularly the endless collection of warning noises and driver-assistance systems, has led him to take a rather more hands-on approach.

Rather than carrying out a straightforward restoration, Clarkson plans to replace and redesign parts of the F-Type using materials produced at Diddly Squat. That includes a Diddly Squat leather interior, wool carpets, and perhaps most ambitiously, a crop of flax which he will attempt to turn into a flax-composite material for the car.

Prime Video describes the flax composite as a sustainable alternative to carbon fibre, and the special will follow Clarkson as he tries to take the material from something growing in a field to something capable of becoming part of an actual sports car. Given how smoothly new ideas usually go at Diddly Squat, there may be one or two complications along the way.

Clarkson will not be attempting the redesign entirely on his own. He will be joined by Ian Callum CBE, founder of design and engineering company CALLUM and the former Jaguar design director behind cars including the original F-Type and Aston Martin Vanquish. Callum will help transform Clarkson’s ideas into a redesigned Jaguar intended to reflect what Clarkson believes the British marque should represent: style, luxury and performance.

It is a neat collision of Clarkson’s two best-known television worlds. Before swapping racetracks for tractors, he spent decades talking about cars on ‘Top Gear’ and later ‘The Grand Tour’. Now the farm has effectively found a way of dragging him back into a garage, only this time he first has to grow some of the car.

The special also extends Prime Video’s relationship with Clarkson beyond the main farming series. Series 5 of ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ launched earlier this year, while Series 6 is due to arrive in 2027.

‘Jeremy Grows a Car: A Clarkson’s Farm Special’ is produced by Expectation, with Andy Wilman, Peter Fincham and Zoe Brewer serving as executive producers. Wilman, of course, has worked with Clarkson across his motoring television career, including ‘Top Gear’ and ‘The Grand Tour’.

There is currently no exact premiere date for the special, although Prime Video says it will launch globally next year in more than 240 countries and territories. Given Clarkson’s long history of taking seemingly simple ideas and discovering they are anything but simple, attempting to grow the raw materials for a Jaguar feels like a fairly natural next step.

‘Jeremy Grows a Car: A Clarkson’s Farm Special‘ premieres in 2027 on Prime Video.
