Netflix has handed ‘The Hunting Wives’ an early Season 3 renewal before Season 2 has even arrived, with the second season now confirmed to launch in November. For UK viewers, though, there is an extra wrinkle, because Season 1 did not begin life as a Netflix Original over here.
The first season of ‘The Hunting Wives’ was originally developed and produced for Starz before reverting to Lionsgate when Starz and Lionsgate separated. Netflix then acquired the completed season for the US, where it became a sizeable hit after launching in July 2025. The show spent five weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for English-language TV, helping to turn a slightly unusual acquisition into something Netflix clearly wanted a lot more of.
But the UK had already gone its own way. ITV acquired Season 1 and launched it on ITVX in December 2025. It proved to be a very good pickup too, becoming ITVX’s top acquired title in January 2026 with nearly seven million streams during the month. So, unlike viewers in the US, British audiences got their first taste of Maple Brook via ITV rather than Netflix.
That changes from Season 2 onwards. Starting with the new season, ‘The Hunting Wives’ becomes a Netflix Original under the streamer’s wider deal with Lionsgate, with Season 2 launching on Netflix in the UK alongside its international rollout in November.
There is still one slightly awkward question hanging over Season 1. It looks very likely that the first season will also join Netflix UK when Season 2 arrives. However, Netflix has not explicitly announced that move for the UK, and its UK title page currently still says the series is unavailable to watch here. So, for now, we would treat Season 1 joining Netflix UK as very likely, but not officially confirmed.
As for what is coming next, Season 2 finds Sophie and Margo “on the outs”, before old secrets and new foes force them back together. The pair once again find themselves caught up in dangerous games around Maple Brook, with the central question shifting to whether they are the hunters or the hunted.
Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect) returns as Sophie, alongside Malin Åkerman (‘Dollface’) as Margo. Dermot Mulroney (‘Chicago Fire’) is also back as Jed Banks, who is now running for governor, while Jaime Ray Newman (‘Dopesick’), Evan Jonigkeit (‘Sweetbitter’) and George Ferrier (Juniper) return as Callie, Graham and Brad respectively.
Season 2 also brings several new faces into the increasingly messy world of Maple Brook. John Stamos (‘Palm Royale’) joins as country music star Chase Brylan, Kim Matula (‘LA to Vegas’) plays Hollywood producer Nadia Kelly, Alex FitzAlan (‘The Wilds’) appears as Jed’s campaign adviser Lincoln Trout, Cam Gigandet (Burlesque) plays Gentle John Moffitt, and Dale Dickey (‘True Blood’) takes the role of biker gang leader Zelda Moffitt. Basketball star Angel Reese also joins the cast as Trainer Barbie.
And Netflix clearly is not planning to wait around to see how Season 2 performs before making another decision. The streamer has already renewed ‘The Hunting Wives’ for Season 3, with another eight episodes ordered and casting already underway.
Creator and showrunner Rebecca Cutter says work on the third season’s scripts is already progressing, with the world of the show getting bigger and the stakes increasing. That early renewal should also help avoid one of streaming television’s more irritating habits, where a successful show vanishes for years between seasons while everyone tries to remember what happened last time.
The series is based on May Cobb’s bestselling 2021 novel and comes from Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment. Cutter created the adaptation and serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Erwin Stoff and Cobb. While Season 1 adapted the book, Season 2 continues the story with an original script.
It is a slightly odd journey for a show which began as a Starz production, became a Netflix acquisition in the US, landed on ITVX in the UK, and has now effectively transformed into a Netflix Original going forward. But given the numbers both Netflix and ITV have seen from Season 1, it is not especially difficult to understand why everyone wanted a piece of it.
For UK viewers, the important bit is that Season 2 now has a firm Netflix date, Season 3 is already guaranteed, and Season 1 appears likely to make the jump from ITVX to Netflix as well, although we are keeping that last part firmly in the expected rather than officially confirmed box until Netflix UK says so itself.
‘The Hunting Wives’ Season 2 premieres Thursday, 26th November 2026 on Netflix in the UK and internationally.
