Geektown Radio 507: MCM London Comic Con Special With Daredevil, GTA, Resident Evil, Percy Jackson & More!

by Dave Elliott

This week, Geektown Radio is doing something a little different, as we bring you a special episode recorded at MCM London Comic Con 2026! Dave spent the weekend at London’s ExCeL Centre, catching up with the stars of ‘Daredevil‘, Grand Theft Auto, Resident Evil, One Piece, and more, along with a fascinating chat with Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan. We’ve got behind-the-scenes stories, surprising revelations, some genuinely lovely moments, and Nolan North doing a rather brilliant Jason Statham impression!

If you’ve never been to MCM Comic Con before, it’s basically three days of thousands of people getting together to celebrate all the geeky stuff they love. You’ve got people who’ve spent months putting together incredible cosplay costumes, others who’ve just turned up in jeans and a T-shirt, groups of friends, families with kids, and pretty much everything in between. It’s a really friendly, welcoming event, and nobody particularly cares how geeky you are or what you’re into. You’re all there because you enjoy this stuff, and that’s rather the point.

Unfortunately, this particular weekend also came with two storms, bringing rain for most of Friday and all of Saturday. That meant the outdoor areas where cosplayers usually gather were largely abandoned in favour of staying dry inside. The result was an absolutely rammed ExCeL, with the journey from the press office at one end to the main panel stages at the other sometimes taking around half an hour!

Consequently, Dave spent most of the weekend either watching panels or walking to panels. There wasn’t much opportunity for the usual cosplay photography either, because nobody particularly wants to photograph a soggy Spider-Man. However, we did film Saturday’s Cosplay Masquerade, which will be appearing on our Geektown YouTube channel, and we’ll have some official cosplay shots coming soon.

But enough about the weather. What did we actually get to see?

Daredevil, GTA and Resident Evil!

First up, we have the cast of ‘Daredevil’, with Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire), Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) and Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie) discussing the show’s future, the challenges of playing masked characters, and whether Vincent is actually ready to say goodbye to Wilson Fisk. Spoiler: he doesn’t sound particularly enthusiastic about the idea!

There’s also a brilliant story from Vincent about working with Stanley Kubrick on Full Metal Jacket, which Wilson immediately manages to make considerably less sentimental.

Next, we head to Los Santos for the Grand Theft Auto panel, featuring Ned Luke, Shawn Fonteno, Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead) and Young Maylay.

This one was an absolute joy, with some fantastic stories about making GTA V and San Andreas. Shawn reveals why he nearly quit the game before production had properly got going, and the surprisingly simple reason Franklin keeps saying “What?” throughout the story.

We also discover details of a bizarre deleted mission involving Michael, Trevor, an estate agent and a horse, plus why the original dog brought in to motion-capture Chop wasn’t quite as cooperative as Rockstar might have hoped.

And then there’s Steven Ogg’s discussion about people whose voices go up at the end of every sentence, making everything sound like a question. That particular bit really needs to be heard rather than read, and it’s hilarious!

Over at the ‘Resident Evil’ panel, the cast included Nick Apostolides, Eden Riegel, Nicole Tompkins, Stephanie Panisello, Lily Gao and Genevieve Buechner.

Eden discusses returning as Sherry Birkin for Resident Evil Requiem and how performance-capture technology has changed since Resident Evil 6. She also shares a wonderful story about playing the latest game with her children, including the moment her son realised his mum’s voice was coming out of the controller.

Meanwhile, Lily Gao admits she doesn’t actually know what an NPC is, which leads to some entertaining chaos when the cast plays WeeClaire’s increasingly infamous game of Existential Chicken!

Percy Jackson, One Piece and the future of Camp Half-Blood

For something a little different, we also attended the Camp Half-Blood panel with Rick Riordan and co-author Annabelle Oh.

There were some genuinely interesting revelations here, particularly Rick explaining how the new Camp Half-Blood book series actually began life as an idea for a potential Disney+ spin-off.

He also discusses whether his time writing in the Percy Jackson universe might be approaching its conclusion, his interest in exploring Celtic mythology, and how he decides which characters live or die. Apparently, there may or may not be a dartboard involved…

Then we have Mackenyu (‘One Piece’) discussing his role as Zoro in Netflix’s live-action adaptation.

There are some fascinating little details, including how he can contact manga creator Eiichiro Oda directly with questions about the character, and how the action choreography doesn’t actually use everything Mackenyu is physically capable of doing.

Unfortunately, the panel itself was something of an odd experience. Despite being announced as a 45-minute session, and with the possibility of audience questions mentioned at the beginning, it wrapped up after approximately 25 minutes without taking any questions from the audience.

Even Mackenyu seemed a little surprised when the conversation suddenly turned into a goodbye!

Nolan North, Neil Newbon and the Jason Statham cinematic universe

Finally, we have the wonderfully titled Charm, Chaos and Command panel, featuring Anjali Bhimani (Ms. Marvel), Neil Newbon (Baldur’s Gate 3), Nolan North (Uncharted) and Benjamin Byron Davis (Red Dead Redemption 2).

This was a really interesting discussion about the realities of an acting career, with the cast talking about rejection, working through difficult periods, and why simply making a living doing something you love is a pretty good definition of success.

Nolan shares a fantastic story about working on Uncharted with Amy Hennig, including how he helped cast Claudia Black as Chloe Frazer. He also recalls an extremely awkward encounter when he returned to doing carpentry work between acting jobs.

Neil takes a moment to pay tribute to BioWare following the studio’s closure, asking the audience to recognise the developers and the legacy they’ve left behind.

But perhaps the funniest moment of the entire weekend comes when Nolan launches into an impression of Jason Statham.

That somehow escalates into Nolan and Neil inventing an entire collection of imaginary Statham films, including a plumber, an exterminator, and a rather bleak black-and-white drama about a postman.

And, frankly, we’d watch every single one of them.

Plus, a little news from the convention floor!

Although Dave spent most of the weekend in panels, he did manage to catch up with Neil Gibson from Twisted Comics.

Neil revealed that the third of their official Black Mirror graphic novel adaptations will be ‘White Bear’, following ‘USS Callister’ and ‘San Junipero’.

He also mentioned that there have been discussions with Netflix about the possibility of adapting his own Twisted Dark comic series for television. Nothing has been commissioned, but it’s certainly an interesting possibility to keep an eye on!

So, despite the rain, the crowds, the considerable amount of walking and one unexpectedly short panel, it was another hugely enjoyable MCM Comic Con.
