KotOR Galaxies?
Okay, this is a rumour that’s been around ever since Bioware announced they were getting into the MMO business. However, it’s recently resurfaced and is rampaging through the gaming community like a stampeding Bantha.
The question is of course:
Are Bioware making a Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG?
The latest rumour to stoke the KotOR MMO fire is a press release from LucasArts today claiming “LucasArts and BioWare Corp. to Create Ground-Breaking Interactive Entertainment Product”. The game “…will push the boundaries of the gaming market by utilizing the strengths of both companies to deliver an innovative, high-quality experience.”
Well, that has to be a KotOR game, surely. They’d have to be idiots for it not to be! With all the hype at the moment, i mean, come on?! Look at it this way. We know Bioware are making an MMO. We know they are making a game for LucasArts that “will push the boundaries of the gaming market” (and that doesn’t sound like a straight RPG to me). Plus, what other license is it likely to be if it’s not KotOR? They already have quite a cool looking Indy game in development to coincide with the Indy 4 release. Monkey Island? Great as some of those games were, seems rather unlikely… 😉
Star Wars seems the most likely license. Plus, thanks to the appalling management of SOE, their current Star Wars MMO (Star Wars Galaxies) has been on it’s last legs for a long time now.
EA (who recently bought Bioware) want in on the MMO market, and don’t seem to like it when companies they own spread themselves too thinly. Would EA be happy about them creating an MMO and a separate game for LucasArts?
Plus, you have to add in all the rumours there have been, and all the hype and positive reaction to the idea of a KotOR MMO.
All i’ll say is this…
Bioware/LucasArts – If your aren’t making a KotOR MMO, you flamin well should be! 😉
Hi Japhez, thanks for the comment.
The problem is less about what the dev’s are doing now, and more about the way SOE handled the whole CU and NGE updates. Personally, i had less issue with the CU, but loading into the game after just after the NGE made it practically unplayable, and that is unforgivable. It was the equivalent of them coming along one day and taking away your car that your perfectly happy with, and replacing it with a clapped out old banger that no one wants… That’s the point. No one wanted the change, but SOE screwed it’s player base, and did it anyway and effectively shoved the game back into beta, but expected us to keep paying for it! You can’t treat customers like that, as they found out to there cost (i.e. dramatic drop in subscribers post NGE).
I went back a few months ago actually to have a look around, and i’ll grant you, they have made improvements since they destroyed the game with the NGE (although it is hard to see how they could have made it worse!)… However, given they were the ones that mangled the game into such a mess, it’s kinda difficult to give them credit for part-fixing something they broke in the first place!
If it was a free game or still in beta, i’d have been okay with such changes, but it’s not. Your paying a monthly fee for it.
Cheers,

Aww, cut em some slack…the new devs aren’t that bad, and they’re actually trying :S
