Star Wars Live Action TV Series To Film Downunder?
The Australian arm of the Scifi channel are claiming they have confirmed stories that the new live action Star Wars TV Series will be filmed in Australia. No news on what they’ll actually be filming yet, but Star Wars second in command Rick McCallum has been approaching ‘big names within the Australian writing industry’ to provide scripts for the show. They also appear to be searching outside the writers of traditional Science Fiction shows including scribes from the award-winning Love My Way and Secret Life of Us…
Got to admit, i know nothing about either of those shows, although they are said to be rather less scifi and rather more well… ‘chick flick’… Not entirely convinced this is good news, and it does give me a bad feeling it could head towards being a Star Wars 90210. Still, on the plus side, at least it looks like Lucas is staying away from the writing duties, which can only be a good thing! 😉
McCallum had said that (unlike the recent cartoons) the live action series is supposed to be aimed at a more mature audience with being “much darker, much grittier, and it’s much more character based”. Character based is fine by me. Look at the superb Battlestar Galactica, or even the genius Firefly, both of which were much more about character and just happened to be in a scifi setting. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. The live action Star Wars TV Series is currently slated to air in 2010/11, but hopefully it won’t be too long a wait before we have some more info.
