If you are an avid follower of all things fantasy – from Lord of the Rings to Game of Thrones or Harry Potter – then you might want your home to reflect those interests with the ultimate in fantasy and geek inspired decor and furnishings.

Many fantasy fans will have large collections of items that they would like to display in their homes, but if you want to go a step further you could incorporate all of those items into an interior decor plan and create a fantasy-inspired home to wow your friends and family with. The huge popularity of fantasy-themed movies, with the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter franchises to the fore, means there is no shortage of inspiration out there, as well as actual products with which to decorate your home.

The possibilities for decking out a home in a fantasy theme can seem endless. Choose from swords, wands, tapestries, rugs, oak tables, chairs, and maybe even suits of armour. You might think that a suit of armour seems a little far-fetched, but demand for such items from Game of Thrones fans, for instance, has seen some replica makers respond with lines of products inspired by the hit HBO series.

A great centrepiece for any fantasy-inspired home is a wooden dining table – ideal for a dining area decorated in a Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones style, where you can host a fantasy-themed dinner party for your likeminded friends. Imagine a dark oak table, or similar, and friends or family sitting around in a recreation of scenes from your favourite fantasy movie or television show.

If you are a parent and your love of fantasy has been passed on to your children – or they have become fans themselves – then why not consider decorating their bedroom in a fantasy theme? Kids value their own space and their bedroom space in particular, so having it kitted out in blankets, bedding, posters and even lighting with the theme of their favourite fantasy movie or program is a great way to help them feel that a corner of the home is theirs. Harry Potter continues to be very popular among children, and merchandise with which to decorate a child’s bedroom is easily available. It would make an ideal Christmas or birthday present.

Decorating your home in a fantasy theme need not be as expensive as you might think. If you are a collector of items associated with your favourite fantasy stories then you will already have a head start on recreating fantasy themes in the home. Other items can be picked up at a relatively inexpensive cost, and remember that furnishings and decorations do not have to be directly related to the movie or television program in question. Use your imagination and take a trip to some local second-hand shops and you might well find the exact items you have been looking for. With a little imagination, an ordinary rug hung on a wall can be just as authentic looking as an expensive suit of armour.

Be inspired by your favourite fantasy tales and transform your home into somewhere magical in which to live.
