Top 5 Shows To Watch Out For In February 2017 On UK TV

As we head into the second month of 2017, not only are we seeing a lot of shows returning from their mid-season break, but also have some amazing new drama arriving to help fill up your digital recording devices. A special mention should go Grimm, which returns to W for it’s 6th and final season, The Walking Dead, which returns for part 2 of Season 7, and Sleepy Hollow, which moves to Syfy UK for a revamped Season 4. However, below are the top 5 shows we think you should be looking out for in February…

Emerald City, Season 1 – 5star – February (exact date to be confirmed)

We’re most definitely not in Kansas anymore… Or any version of Oz you’ve ever seen before! Emerald City is The Wizard Of Oz passed through a filter of The 100 and Game Of Thrones.

20yr old nurse Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona – True Detective) is thrown to this other world of Oz by a tornado, but it’s not a happy group of munchkins that greets her. These guys are a tribal group of warriors, more akin to GoT’s Wildlings than happy little people. You also have a Wizard, played by the brilliant Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil), but he’s closer to being a dictator than little guy hiding behind a curtain. There is a Scarecrow, but he’s bulked up into the shape of Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Dracula, Mr Selfridge), a man with no memory Dorothy finds crucified on the side of the road!.. And Toto is the police dog, who hitched a ride with her in the back of the police car… As I said… this is not a version of Oz you’ve seen before!

Legion, Season 1 – FOX (UK) – 09 February 2017 at 9pm

When you hear there is going to be a show which is related to X-Men, you probably have a perception in your head of what that show might be. All action, mutants together, kicking ass and taking names… Legion is not that. It is, however, brilliant. Meet David Haller (Dan Stevens – Downton Abbey). A troubled young man who has been in and out of mental institutions all his life for schizophrenic. But it’s not until he meets the Rogue-a-like, Syd (Rachel Keller – Fargo), it becomes apparent that the voices he’s hearing in his head, might not be imaginary at all…

Legion is a wonderfully weird addition to the X-Men universe. The first few episodes are mainly dealing with David learning about his power… or rather, that he actually has powers… and that he might be the most powerful mutant in the world. The entire show is designed to keep you somewhat off kilter, like you’re inside David’s head, experiencing this weirdness with him. Time, people, and places all get pulled around as he tries to make sense of this new reality, and you are right there with him. It’s a hard show to explain without spoiling things too much, so I urge you to go and watch when it lands on Fox UK.

24: Legacy, Season 1 – FOX (UK) – 15 February 2017 at 9pm

24 is back! Yes, it is minus Jack Bauer, but surprisingly, he’s not all that missed. Our new man having a very bad day is Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins – Walking Dead, Straight Outta Compton), an ex-army ranger who’s trying to get on with his life after his elite squad killed terrorist leader Sheik Ibrahim Bin-Khalid. Things start to go wrong when he realises someone is killing off his old teammates, and they’re coming for him next. This is something no one should be able to do, as the team’s identities were highly classified.

Calling his old CTU handler Rebecca Ingram (Miranda Otto – Homeland), she attempts to help him, but is hindered by the fact she retired from CTU to help her husband John (Jimmy Smits) get elected to office. Unsure of who she can trust, Rebecca is reluctant to give details to new CTU boss Keith Mullins (Teddy Sears – The Flash), and so tries to help him covertly… That’s a plan that always ends well in 24…

Billions, Season 2 – Sky Atlantic – 21 February 2017 at 10pm

The brilliant Billions returns for a 2nd season. Who would have thought a drama about a hedge fund management company could be so gripping (having Damian Lewis & Paul Giamatti in the leads does help!) If the first season was all about District Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti) trying to take down Axe (Lewis), this season sees the tables turned, with Axe going on the attack. If you missed the first season, it’s on Sky Box Sets right now, so I urge you to go and catch up before the Billions Season 2 lands in the UK on Sky Atlantic!

Lucky Man, Season 2 – Sky1 – 24 February 2017 at 9pm

Stan Lee’s Lucky Man is back, and sees James Nesbitt return as Harry, the luckiest cop in London. Still wearing the lucky bracelet he acquired in season 1, Harry is somewhat surprised to learn it’s not as unique as he thought… Whilst on a night out, he spots a woman (Thekla Reuten) wearing a distinctive item of jewelry identical to his own. Who is this woman, and where did she get her bracelet? We will find out when Lucky Man returns in February!
