The next episode in the Star Wars saga has officially got a name! It will be called Star Wars: The Last Jedi when it released in December 2017.
The story will continue where The Force Awakens left off, with Rey (Daisy Ridley) finding Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) alone on the top of a mountain. Rian Johnson takes over the writing and directing for this second movie in the new series, which will also see the return of John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver. In addition to those, it will probably be the final screen outing for Carrie Fisher, who sadly passed away at the end of last year.
What is interesting on the artwork released with the name, is the colour… Rather than the traditional yellow, they have gone with the rather more sinister red… Whether that is just us fanboys reading too much into it, or whether it signifies a darker tone to the film remains to be seen. Johnson did say in a recent interview he wanted the movie to be ‘fun’, adding “I want it to be a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were.” However, that doesn’t mean there can’t be some darkness in there too.
We will just have to wait until December to find out when Star Wars: The Last Jedi is released in cinemas!
