SDCC: ‘Vikings’ Gets Season 5 Trailer & November Air Date

by Dave Elliott

The History Channel USA give us a taster of whats to come when the Vikings‘ return for 5th Season, with a brand new trailer, straight from San Diego Comic-Con.

It’s fair to say ‘Vikings’ has never been a show to shy away from the odd bit of mutilation and blood curdling violence, but this season looks to be stepping things up a gear. War is coming, and a Civil War at that… (except this one has a lot less “Underoos!”, and more heads being severed from bodies!

The new season begins with Ivar the Boneless asserting his leadership over the Great Heathen Army, while Lagertha reigns as Queen of Kattegat. Ivar’s murder of his brother Sigurd sets the stage for vicious battles to come as Ragnar’s sons plot their next moves after avenging their father’s death. Bjorn follows his destiny into the Mediterranean Sea, and Floki, who is suffering from the loss of his wife Helga, takes to the seas submitting himself to the will of the Gods.

Katheryn Winnick, Gustaf Skarsgård, Alexander Ludwig and Alex Høgh Andersen are all set to return this season, and will be joined by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who debuted as Bishop Heahmund at the end of last season.

The season 5 premiere will be an extended epic too. “When [writer] Michael Hirst told us his epic plans for the season premiere,” commented Arturo Interian, History’s SVP Scripted Programming, “we needed two hours to tell it properly!”

The History Channel have announced the US air date as Wednesday, November 29. That should mean Vikings Season 5 streams onto Amazon Prime Video in the UK from Thursday, 30th November, 2017, but that is still to be officially confirmed.
