‘House of Cards’ To Finish With Season 6. Spin-Off In The Works

Netflix has announced the upcoming 6th Season of House of Cards will be it’s last. However, they do have plans for a possible spin-off series.

The news of ‘House of Cards’ ending comes following accusations in Buzzfeed from ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ actor Anthony Rapp that Kevin Spacey had made sexual advances towards him whilst drunk at a party, when Spacey was 26 and Rapp was 14 years old… Spacey released a statement on Twitter saying he has no memory of the encounter but apologised saying “I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.”

Whilst Netflix has said it found the news “deeply disturbing”, Season 6 of ‘House of Cards’, which is currently in production, was set to be the show’s last anyway. No air date has been set for the new season, although it is expected to arrive in Spring 2018.

UPDATE: Netflix has now announced in a series of Tweets “Production on the final season of House of Cards is suspended until further notice. This will give us time to review the current situation with our producing partners at MRC. Execs are on set this week discussing with our cast and crew. More details to come.”

House of Cards‘ was expected to return for it’s 6th and final season in Spring 2018, but that may be ditched entirely depending on the outcome of the production’s decision over the next few days or weeks.

Following the announcement of the main show ending, Variety is reporting that a number of possible spin-off ideas are in the works. One idea would follow Frank Underwood’s political aide, Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), with Eric Roth (‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, ‘Forrest Gump’). Roth was also an exec producer on the first 4 seasons of ‘House of Cards’. A couple of other potential spin-off ideas based in the same ‘House of Cards’ universe have also been floated, but no writers are yet attached.
