After (a lot!) of teasing, DC Studios has released the first trailer for James Gunn’s highly-anticipated ‘Superman’ film, which lands in cinemas next year.
‘Superman’ tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
Whilst the new teaser trailer doesn’t give much more away plot-wise, we do get a good look at David Corenswet as a blooded Superman, who calls for rescue by the goodest of boys, his super-dog, Krypto. There are also brief shots of Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific. The trailer is all set to a new version of John Williams’ iconic Superman theme.
Gunn describes the film as being “a movie about kindness. It’s a movie about being good.” We can see from the trailer, Supes appears to have come up against a tough opponent as it opens with him lying blooded in the snow, then whistling for Krypto to come and help him. Later we see him seemingly at odds with the public, as they pelt him with objects.
“At the beginning of this trailer, Superman wants Krypto to take him home,” Gunn said in a press conference about the trailer. “And I think that this is a place where we can all go home, to a character that we love, to the simplicity of the morals and goodness and love that Superman embodies as a character, and that we can all go home this summer to Superman. I think it’s something that could be a good thing for us.”
James Gunn directs the film from his screenplay based on characters from DC. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
‘Superman’ is set to land in cinemas from July 11, 2025 worldwide.
