Simon Pegg/Nick Frost Planning Paranormal Horror-Comedy TV Series ‘Truth Seekers’
It looks like the brilliant comedic bromance that is Simon Pegg & Nick Frost could be coming back to tv with a brand new show!
In a recent interview with Variety, the duo revealed their indie production company, Stolen Picture, which was formed in 2017, has a tv series in development, along with a movie due out later this year.
The pair has a number of individual project on the go at the moment – Pegg with 6th installment of the ‘Mission Impossible’ franchise, ‘Ready Player One’, and the movie ‘Terminal’ with Margot Robbie, and Frost with AMC’s ‘Into The Badlands’, the new ‘Tomb Raider’ film, and ‘Fighting with My Family’ with Dwayne Johnson. However, they are saying, moving forward, they are looking to break free of “past commitments” and focus their attention on Stolen Picture projects.
The new tv show, titled ‘Truth Seekers’, is based around a 3 person paranormal investigations team, with each episode focused on a ‘monster of the week’ type paranormal incident. “It’ll start as a very parochial idea, a very small business venture for these people, but it will expand as the series goes on to be something far more global,” says Pegg. “It’s a language everyone understands, the mystery of the unknown. ‘Shaun of the Dead’ was a very parochial story set in North London and somehow it managed to get this global reach because everyone understands the language of zombie movies.”
The first Stolen Picture film, which is currently in post-production, is a horror-comedy called ‘Slaughterhouse Rulez’. Directed by Crispian Mills, is set in a posh UK public school, and is a satirical look at how much the UK is selling off its assets. If you’re wondering where the ‘horror’ element comes in, Pegg says “It’s about fracking as well, and that unleashes some awful subterranean demon.”
They also have another film in development through Stolen Picture about a fading double act who reunite one last time decades after a falling out. It sounds perfect for Pegg & Frost, who say it’s likely to be a low budget, two-hander movie where they can retain creative control. “There’s that trade-off,” Frost adds. “I’d rather have a lot less money and make a film or a TV series and have a great time doing it than put it through a million processes and people you don’t know and you don’t respect creatively.”
Pegg & Frost, of course, started out in TV with the fantastic ‘Spaced’, along with long-time collaborator Edgar Wright, so it’s great to see them planning a small screen comeback together, and with it being all under the duo’s control.
As ‘Truth Seekers’ is only in development at the moment there is no broadcaster attached or air date, but we’ll update you as we hear more.
