Lauren Cohan WILL Be Back As Maggie on ‘The Walking Dead’

Lauren Cohan has revealed she is going to return to The Walking Dead for Season 9, although it’s not exactly clear in what capacity.

For those that haven’t been following this story, fellow lead actors Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus both signed new contracts, however, Cohan had been holding out for a better deal, understandably, requesting pay parity with her co-stars. As she was now out-of-contract she took the lead in ABC pilot ‘Whiskey Cavalier’ in the Walking Dead filming break, which makes total sense – she’s gotta eat after all, and if she wasn’t going to get a deal to return, she needed a new show. This lead to some very public support on social media from her fellow cast mates, which included Khary Payton (King Ezekiel) posting “pay the woman!” on Instagram.

It seems some sort of deal has been worked out with AMC now, although the exact nature of her Season 9 role isn’t totally clear. In an interview with EW, Cohan comments “I’m going back. There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell. You know we’re not allowed to tell you anything, but it’s good.”

The ‘Whiskey Cavalier’ pilot has yet to be picked up at ABC, but if it is, that will likely reduce Cohan’s availability for TWD Season 9. However, the fact she is returning should be a relief to fans, given we were left with a Maggie’s unresolved story thread which was set up in the Season 8 finale. So it may be a short-term return which sees Maggie being killed off, or it could be the character is just used more sparingly throughout the season. Or, it could be ‘Whiskey Cavalier’ doesn’t get picked up and she’s managed to get the pay parity she was after so is back fulltime.

We’ll let you know when we hear more, but as of right now, Lauren Cohan will be back as Maggie in ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 9 when it returns to UK tv on Fox in Autumn 2018.
