BBC One Sets August Premiere Date For ‘Bodyguard’ Starring Richard Madden & Keeley Hawes

by Dave Elliott

The BBC has set an August premiere date for Jed Mercurio’s Bodyguard starring Richard Madden & Keeley Hawes, they have announced today.

Set in and around the corridors of power, ‘Bodyguard’ tells the fictional story of David Budd (Madden), a heroic but volatile war veteran now working as a Specialist Protection Officer for the Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch (RaSP) of London’s Metropolitan Police Service. When he is assigned to protect the ambitious and powerful Home Secretary Julia Montague (Hawes), whose politics stand for everything he despises, Budd finds himself torn between his duty and his beliefs. Responsible for her safety, is he actually her biggest threat?

The cast is led by Richard Madden (‘Game Of Thrones’) and Keeley Hawes (‘The Durrells’, ‘Line of Duty’, ‘Spooks’). They are joined by Gina McKee (‘Line Of Duty’, ‘Our Friends In The North’), Sophie Rundle (‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Jamestown’), Vincent Franklin (‘Happy Valley’, ‘Cucumber’) and Rowena King (‘Trauma’, ‘The Wrong Mans’).

The 6-episode, hour-long series is produced by World Productions for BBC One and will be executive produced by showrunner Jed Mercurio (‘Line Of Duty’), Simon Heath for World Productions and Elizabeth Kilgarriff for BBC One. Thomas Vincent (‘Versailles’, ‘The Tunnel’) and John Strickland (‘Line of Duty’, ‘In Plain Sight’) have directed the drama.

Episode 1 of ‘Bodyguard‘ will premiere on Sunday, 26th August 2018 at 9pm. Episode 2 will air Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August 2018 at 9pm. The 4 remaining episodes will then go back to airing on Sundays at 9pm. All the episodes should, of course, be on iPlayer after they air.
