E4 Sets January UK Premiere Date For The All New ‘Charmed’ Season 1

by Dave Elliott

Like it or not, Charmed is back for a brand new reboot of the 1998 series, and Season 1 will get it’s UK premiere on E4 in January 2019.

As with the previous version, the fantasy drama follows three young witches with supernatural powers. Firebrand social justice warrior Mel (Melonie Diaz – ‘Fruitvale Station’, ‘The Breaks’) and her sister, fun-loving Maggie (Sarah Jeffery – ‘Shades of Blue’, ‘Wayward Pines’), are shattered when their mother Marisol dies in a horrific accident. Three months later, Mel is unable to accept the official explanation of Marisol’s death, while Maggie accuses her of being morbidly obsessed.

The sisters face another upheaval when their older sibling, brilliant geneticist Macy (Madeleine Mantock – ‘Into the Badlands’, ‘The Tomorrow People’), who’s new in town, turns up… which is a surprise to the sisters, as their mother had kept Macy’s existence a secret, so they didn’t know she even existed!

With the three now together, and emotions running high, the women start to exhibit amazing new abilities: Mel can freeze time, Maggie hears others’ thoughts and Macy has telekinetic powers. But there’s a reasonable explanation, according to officious academic Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans – ‘The Man in the High Castle’), who gathers them together. They’re powerful witches, as was their mother, and he is their Whitelighter – a witch’s advisor and guide. He also reveals Mel was right. Marisol’s death was no accident: she was murdered by dark forces.

The sisters must decide whether to accept their new destiny as The Charmed Ones and their duty to protect humankind from demons, one of whom killed their mother. The Power of Three makes them stronger together, but they have no idea what they’re really up against.

Charmed‘ Season 1 premieres Tuesday, 8th January 2019 at 9pm on E4.
