Netflix Confirms ‘Narcos: Mexico’ Season 2 Leads

Netflix has confirmed who will be leading the cast as Narcos: Mexico heads into its 2nd Season… Now, before I go further, I would like to apologise for not putting that info into the headline, but I’m desperately trying to avoid spoilers unless you click into the article. So *WARNING, there are most definitely Season 1 spoilers in the article below!* Advance at your own risk!

Still here? Good. So we’re going to assume you’ve either finished Season 1 or don’t mind being spoiled!

So, as you will know, Michael Peña, who starred as DEA agent Kiki Camarena won’t be back due to having been brutally murdered… Diego Luna will obviously take one of the leads, returning as Félix Gallardo, head of the Guadalajara Cartel. The other goes to Scoot McNairy, who played a key role in the first season, although you may not have realised that until the end.

McNairy plays DEA Agent Walt Breslin, who was the unnamed narrator of Season 1. He also popped up in the final scenes of the drama, as Operation Leyenda launches off the back of Camarena’s death. Breslin, along with a new team, leads the largest DEA homicide investigation ever undertaken.

You may know Scoot McNairy from his roles as Gordon Clark in ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ or as Bill McNue in Netflix series ‘Godless’. He also popped up in ‘Fargo’ Season 3 as Maurice LeFay, and played Wallace Keefe in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’.

Whilst Netflix hasn’t said specifically what the plotline will be for Season 2, we do have some idea, given it’s based on real historical events (which I won’t go into, because… spoilers… but you can google what happened in real life if you want to!). As Breslin says in the closing voiceover, the events of Season 1 “was the beginning.” What followed was where the US/Mexican drug war really kicked off. “We knew we were in a war,” adds Breslin. “Now, it was our turn. Pretty soon, they were gonna know, they were in one too.”

Netflix hasn’t given a premiere date for Narcos: Mexico‘ Season 2, however, the original series had around a 12-month gap between seasons, so we’d expect this to follow suit. That means it should land around Autumn 2019. We’ll let you know when we have something more concrete.
