Amazon Prime Picks Up ‘American Gods’ For Season 3

Amazon Prime Video have picked up the 3rd season of the hit series, American Gods, the streaming service has announced today.

The show, which airs on Starz in the US, but is exclusively available in more than 200 countries and territories on Prime Video in the rest of the world, is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by award-winning author, Neil Gaiman.

Starring Ricky Whittle (‘The 100’, ‘Nappily Ever After’) as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane (‘Deadwood’, ‘John Wick’) as Mr. Wednesday, American Gods tells the story of a war brewing between Old Gods and New Gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Season Two finds the battle between Old Gods and New Gods moving inexorably towards crisis point as their destinies collide with those of men. In this strange new world, faith requires terrible sacrifice.

“I’m thrilled American Gods has been renewed for a third season, and even more thrilled that I’m getting to work on it with Chic Eglee,” commented Neil Gaiman. “Chic is the best partner-in-crime. We’ve been working for weeks now on the shape of the season and I’m delighted that he gets to carry the American Gods torch on to glory. Thank you to Fremantle, Starz and Amazon for having faith in the series, to Bryan, Michael and Jesse for bringing it this far, to all the cast and crew, and most of all to the viewers. It’s their love of the characters that took us to this point, and will take us on to the next chapter.”

Behind the scenes, Season 2 of the drama had a bit of a rough time, following the departure of original showrunners Bryan Fuller & Michael Green. It’s now announced Charles “Chic” Eglee will join the ‘god squad’ as showrunner for the upcoming 3rd season. He is best known for his work on series such as ‘Hemlock Grove’, ‘The Walking Dead’, ‘Dexter’ and ‘The Shield’.

“American Gods is stunning entertainment and our customers across the globe are loving it,” adds Brad Beale, Vice President of Worldwide Licensing for Prime Video. “With season two just kicking off, we’re thrilled that we can officially announce for our customers and fans of Neil Gaiman that another season of the series they love will be coming to Prime Video.”

Season 1 of ‘American Gods‘ now on Prime Video in its entirety, with new Season 2 episodes being released every Monday.
