The CW Renews ‘The 100’ For Season 7, Along With ‘All American’, ‘In The Dark’, & ‘Roswell, New Mexico’

The CW lives up to its reputation as the USA’s most renewal-happy network as it hands out a 7th Season to The 100 along with 2nd Seasons to freshman dramas All American, In The Dark, and Roswell, New Mexico.

The CW has a history of not cancelling its dramas, but the US network has really outdone itself this year, with these four series bringing the total number of renewed scripted series to 14 for the 2019-20 Season. These join ‘Arrow’ which returns for a final 8th Season, ‘The Flash’ Season 6, ‘Supergirl’ Season 5, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Season 5, ‘Black Lightning’ Season 3, ‘Riverdale’ Season 4, ‘Dynasty’ Season 3, and ‘Supernatural’ which returns for an epic final 15th Season. The other two members of this year’s freshman class aren’t being left out either, as both ‘Charmed’ and ‘Legacies’ also received 2nd Seasons.

“As we begin to plan for the 2019-2020 season, we’re thrilled to have this roster of 14 exceptionally creative and distinctive series, including all five first-year shows, as the foundation on which to continue to build the multiplatform future of The CW,” commented Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. “One of our key long-term goals has been to continually add more original programming all year round, especially in midseason and summer, and with these returning shows and the new series we’ll order as we get closer to the May upfront, next season on The CW is shaping up to be our most robust year-round schedule yet.”

Whilst The CW is usually the most renewal-happy of the main US networks, this is the first time they have renewed all of their first-year shows. It’s also a record number of renewals for the network, beating this year’s 12 renewals for the 2018-19 Season. Part of the reason for that is due to The CW adding Sunday night programming… something it apparently didn’t do until this season (which I know seems a little odd to a UK audience.) They also have lost/will be losing ‘Arrow’, ‘Supernatural’, ‘iZombie’, ‘Jane the Virgin’ and ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ as those shows come to an end, so have plenty of space for new pilot pickups.

Currently, only ‘The 100’ has a UK home on E4, and is due to return for Season 6 later this year. However, this pick up might help to encourage some pickups for ‘All American’, ‘In The Dark’, and ‘Roswell, New Mexico’, now UK broadcasters know they will get more than 1 Season out of the drama. We will have to wait and see!

The 100‘ Season 6 started later in the US this year, and actually doesn’t begin airing until April 30 at 9:00/8:00c on The CW. E4 has been somewhat dragging their feet with their imports this Season, but we are assured it will return in 2019, they just don’t have a date yet. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
