Two Series Regulars To Leave ‘DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow’

News has dropped today DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow will be losing two of it’s cast regulars from the show next season… Apologies for the slightly clickbaity title, but I didn’t want to reveal who in the title for people avoiding spoilers! You have been warned – *SPOILERS BELOW*

Original team member Brandon Routh, who stars as Ray Palmer/Atom, and Courtney Ford, who was upgraded to series regular as Nora Darhk in 2018, will both be leaving the show.

“Brandon and Courtney have been invaluable members of the Legends family,” commented exec producers Phil Klemmer, Grianne Godfree and Keto Shimizu said in a statement. “They have always brought a level of passion and collaboration to their characters and to the show – both on and off the screen – that we deeply admire and for which we are eternally grateful.”

Routh then took to Instagram with a statement saying “Thank you all for watching Ray’s journey over the past 5 years. I love this character. I love bringing his wit and charm and silliness to life every day on set. I will miss him immensely and felt he had more adventures ahead, but unfortunately, his storyline is pointed in another direction. I’m saddened to see Ray’s journey end for now.” He continues “I love my fellow cast and crew, and want you to know how tirelessly they work to bring each episode of this critically acclaimed show to you every week! And thank you to our outstanding team of writers who come up with bonkers ideas that always end up working! Thank you for leaning into my comedic nature – and that of our cast. Our show is better because of it.”

If you’re thinking, that sounds a little like he didn’t want to leave, it looks like you would be correct… When someone jokingly commented to him directly on Twitter that, if it was his choice to leave, he would “hunt him down”, he answered, “I appreciate your tenacity, but not my decision.”

Courtney Ford has also been out on social media, tweeting “Thank you @LoTWritersRoom for the opportunity to play in a world I love so much. Thanks to @GBerlanti and to @mguggenheim & @philklemmer for believing Nora could live past her first 3 eps of S3! What a ride. Proud to have been able to call @warnerbrostv and @TheCW my home.”

The Arrowverse seems to be in for a seismic shakeup this year, as the events of the ‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ crossover ripple through the shows. We already know that ‘Arrow’ is ending, but has added a number of new faces to the cast for the final season, mainly in the future “Arrow Kids” universe. Mehcad Brooks, who plays James Olsen, will be leaving ‘Supergirl’, but we will get the return on Winn (Jeremy Jordan) for a small arc next season. ‘Black Lightning’ will be folded into the Arrowverse during the crossover, which will also have a string of guest appearances from people such as the voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, and ‘Batman ’66’ Robin, Burt Ward. Routh himself will at least go out in style, by re-donning the red, yellow and blue of Superman (who he played in the movie ‘Superman Returns’) alongside ‘Supergirl’s current Man Of Steel, Tyler Hoechlin.

The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl return to Sky One in October 2019, with Black Lightning returning to Netflix UK. Legends Of Tomorrow starts in 2020 in the US, so won’t be back until then in the UK either. What is still unconfirmed at the moment, is whether the new addition, Batwoman, is coming to Sky One. We suspect they have been angling to acquire it, but, at the moment, they won’t (or can’t) confirm a pick up for the new series. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
