Netflix Releases Teaser Trailer For ‘Snowpiercer’ Season 2

by Dave Elliott

Season 1 of Snowpiercer has only just ended it’s run, but there is already a little teaser trailer for Season 2, which hints at what’s to follow from that dramatic finale!

Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centres on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out in this riveting television adaptation.

WARNING SEASON 1 SPOILERS BELOW!

If you’ve watched through to the end of Season 1, you’ll know it ended in a rather surprising place… The revelation that Snowpiercer is not the only train on the tracks! The final two episodes cover the conclusion of the “Tailies” rebellion, which saw Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) gain control of the train from First Class with the help of the recently deposed Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly). Whilst the train is just beginning to set up a more democratic “new normal”, the Engine picks up a strange radio broadcast. It seems that the signal comes from Big Alice, a supply train running on a prototype of the Eternal Engine… And they believe the man at the helm is non-other than Mr. Wilford himself!

We had hints of who would be playing Mr. Wilford earlier in the season when we heard a very distinctive voice on the tapes Melanie used to patch together audio messages from Wilford. The trailer above confirms that the reclusive billionaire will be played by Ned Stark himself, Sean Bean! Somewhat out of character for Sean, he is playing a character who has seemingly returned from the dead, after Melanie took over the train, leaving Wilford to die in the cold. It appears that didn’t happen, and he not only got the prototype Engine up and running, but he is coming after Snowpiercer, as Big Alice latches onto the tail of the rival train and begins to cut a way through. However, it is not Mr. Wilford who steps out, but Melanie’s long-believed-dead daughter, Alexandra Cavil (Rowan Blanchard – ‘The Goldbergs’).

‘Snowpiercer’ is produced by Tomorrow Studios (a joint venture between Marty Adelstein and ITV Studios), along with CJ Entertainment, who produced the original film. The series is executive produced by Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein (‘Cowboy Bebop’, ‘Hanna’, ‘Prison Break’) and Becky Clements (‘Aquarius’, ‘Last Man Standing’); showrunner Graeme Manson (‘Orphan Black’), who wrote the first episode; director James Hawes (‘The Alienist’, ‘Black Mirror’); Matthew O’Connor (‘Continuum’, ‘Tin Man’); Scott Derrickson (‘Sinister’, ‘Doctor Strange’), and the original film’s producers Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Tae-sung Jeong, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi.

It’s not clear exactly when Snowpiercer Season 2 will premiere, but most of the filming was complete before the pandemic shut everything down. We’ll let you know when we get a confirmed premiere date.
