Paddy Considine Cast As King Viserys Targaryen In GoT Prequel ‘House Of The Dragon’
HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’ prequel series ‘House Of The Dragon‘ has found its King, as Paddy Considine lands the role of Viserys Targaryen on the upcoming drama.
Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series, which is set 300 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’, tells the story of House Targaryen. Considine portrays King Viserys Targaryen, who was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but as we’ve learned from ‘Game of Thrones’, good men do not necessarily make for great kings…
Paddy Considine is currently starring in ‘The Third Day’ on HBO/Sky Atlantic, and recently starred in the brilliant HBO drama ‘The Outsider’. His other work includes shows such as ‘Peaky Blinders’ and ‘Informer’, along with popping up in movies such as ‘Hot Fuzz’, ‘The Death of Stalin’ and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’.
George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal (‘Colony’, ‘Hercules’) will serve as co-creators on the series. Miguel Sapochnik and Condal will be showrunners, and the pair will also serve as executive producers along with Martin and Vince Gerardis. Sapochnik, whose directing credits include six ‘Game of Thrones’ episodes, won Emmy and DGA honours for “Battle of the Bastards.” He was nominated for another Emmy in 2019 for directing “The Long Night” and won the Emmy for Best Drama Series as an executive producer for the final season.
‘House Of The Dragon‘ is set to premiere in 2022 (although, the pandemic may shift that!) on HBO & HBO Max in the USA. As it is airing on the HBO channel in the US, it should fall under Sky’s overall deal and air on Sky Atlantic in the UK (the deal only covers HBO channel series and not shows which are purely HBO Max properties.)
