‘The Umbrella Academy’ Renewed For Season 3 At Netflix

Whilst we’ve got a little used to Netflix cancelling shows this year, finally, we have some great news! The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for Season 3 the streaming service has announced!

The wonderfully weird family superhero drama is based in a reality where, on the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. Season 1 saw the six surviving members reunite upon the news of their father’s passing and having to work as a team once more to solve a mystery surrounding his death. But the estranged family begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

The third season will see Ellen Page return as Vanya, along with Tom Hopper as Luther (aka Spaceboy), Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison (aka The Rumor), Robert Sheehan as Klaus (aka The Séance), David Castañeda as Diego (aka The Kraken), Aidan Gallagher as Number Five (aka The Boy) and Justin H. Min as Ben (aka Number Six).

(SEASON 2 SPOILER WARNING BELOW)

Season 2, which premiered in July this year, saw the family using his Five’s powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse. Something which The Boy had warned (so, so many times) was risky… It turned out, he was right – the time jump scattered the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas, over a three year period, starting in 1960. Some had been stuck in the past for years, building new lives, certain they were the only ones who survived. Five was the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which – spoiler alert! – turned out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). The Umbrella Academy managed to find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse… Although, when they did manage to get back to the “present”, it seems all their time-meddling had altered 2019… They are greeted by a very-much-still-alive Reginald, and members of “Sparrow Academy”, consisting of five different children, a floating green cube, and an also very-much-still-alive Ben as Number One…

Production on Season 3 will begin in Toronto, Canada in February 2021. Steve Blackman (‘Fargo’, ‘Altered Carbon’) will return as Showrunner and Executive Producer. He’s joined by Jeff F. King (EP/D), Mike Richardson (EP), Keith Goldberg (EP), Jesse McKeown (EP), Gerard Way (Co-EP), and Gabriel Bá (Co-EP). The third season will consist of 10 one-hour episodes and will be produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, for Netflix.
