Superman Gets New Super Suit In ‘Superman & Lois’… Which Is Super!
Superman will be getting a makeover when he heads off into his own Arrowverse show, as The CW reveals some new threads for The Man Of Steel in ‘Superman & Lois‘.
‘Superman & Lois’ sees Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise their Arrowverse roles as the man of steel and his intrepid reporter wife. The series, which comes from ‘The Flash’ EP Todd Helbing and Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti, revolves around the world’s most famous superhero and comic books’ most famous journalist as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

“I find that the new suit is representative of the show,” commented Hoechlin. “Just as this suit is unique and set apart from the ones that preceded it, the story we’re telling about Clark/Superman at this point in his life is unique and something we’ve never seen before. I appreciate the opportunity to wear the suit and the responsibility that comes with it. It’s always interesting when I’m asked how I feel about ‘my new suit.’ because I’ve always felt that the suit doesn’t belong to me; it belongs to everyone that finds some kind of meaning in that suit, in the symbol on the chest. I just happen to be the one wearing it.”
As you can see, they haven’t gone for the underpants on the outside, and are sticking with the “New 52” look of the suit. Gone are the big clasps from the cape, and it has a redesigned belt. It also lines up a little more closely with the big-screen version, as worn by Henry Cavill.
The new Superman suit is designed by Laura Jean Shannon and built by her LA-based Supersuits team in conjunction with Creative Character Engineering. They describe it as having “a classic, timeless vibe that both harkens back to the Superman we all grew up with while grounding him and elevating the suit in a modern arena with updated techniques and applications.”
“We got Superman into some custom athletic-inspired Super-Boots as a ‘jumping-off point’ and focused on a new neckline and cape to maximize the billowing and movement we all love to see in the books and films that have defined this character for generations,” adds designer, Shannon. “A streamlined muscle structure and updated paint job combined with some dynamic design lines and a sculpted armoured belt all took his established custom fabric into a new direction to solidify the new look for Superman in Superman & Lois.”
Alongside Hoechlin and Tulloch as Clark & Lois, the cast includes Jordan Elsass (‘Little Fires Everywhere’) & Alexander Garfin (‘The Peanuts Movie’) as the couples now teen children, Jonathan and Jordan Kent; Dylan Walsh (‘Nip/Tuck’, ‘Longmire’, ‘Unforgettable’) who takes over the role of General Samuel Lane, Lois’s father; Emmanuelle Chriqui (‘The Passage’, ‘Shut Eye’) as Lana Lang-Cushing, and Erik Valdez (‘Graceland’) as Kyle Cushing.
‘Superman & Lois‘ Season 1 is set to premiere February 23, 2021, at 9pm on The CW in the USA. We don’t yet have return dates for the Arrowverse shows in the UK, and we also don’t know if Sky One will actually be picking up ‘Superman & Lois’ (although, I really hope they do, and are more on the ball this year so we don’t have another ‘Batwoman’ fiasco!) We’ll let you know when we hear something.
