Pierce Brosnan Joins DC’s ‘Black Adam’ As Doctor Fate

Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan is going from super-spy to superhero, as it’s announced he will don the helmet of Doctor Fate opposite Dwayne Johnson in DC’s upcoming ‘Black Adam’ movie.

Plot details on ‘Black Adam’ are rather thin at the moment, although back in August last year at DC Fandome, they did reveal a trailer featuring some concept art, including a voiceover from Black Adam, revealing his origin:

“5,000 years ago, Kahndaq was a melting pot of magic and powers. Most of us had nothing except the chains around our necks. Kahndaq needed a hero… instead, they got me. I did what needed to be done… and they imprisoned me for it. Now, 5000 years later, I’m free. And I give you my word… no one will ever stop me again.”

It was also revealed that a number of DC’s Justice Society of America will be joining Johnson on-screen. As previously announced, Aldis Hodge (‘City on a Hill’, ‘Underground’, ‘TURN: Washington’s Spies’) will play Hawkman, Noah Centineo (‘The Fosters’, ‘To All the Boys’ films) plays Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell (‘Trinkets’) portrays Cyclone. Now Brosnan will join them as Doctor Fate.

Doctor Fate, real name Kent Nelson, wears the powerful Helmet of Fate – an instrument imbued with the power of Nabu, one of the mythical Lords of Order. With the helmet, Doctor Fate ranks among the most powerful magic users in the DC Universe, with a history the stems all the way back to ancient Egypt.

Pierce Brosnan is, of course, best known as James Bond from 1995 to 2002, although he had some previous experience as a spy, playing ‘Remington Steele’ in the 80s tv show. Outside of Bond, his extensive film career includes movies such as ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’, cult hit ‘Mars Attacks!’, ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’, and some (slightly dubious) singing in the ‘Mamma Mia’ films. On tv, he also starred in AMC’s western tv drama ‘The Son’ which ran for two seasons.

‘Black Adam’ is set to begin filming any moment now in Atlanta, and currently is scheduled for release in December 2021, although release dates are somewhat flexible at the moment due to the pandemic, so we’ll let you know if that changes.
