‘The Good Doctor’ Renewed For Season 5

In news that is nice to have confirmed, but not unexpected, ABC has renewed The Good Doctor for Season 5 the US network has announced.

From ‘House’ creator David Shore, the series stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, continues to use his extraordinary medical gifts at St. Bonaventure Hospital’s surgical unit. As his friendships deepen, Shaun continues to tackle the world of dating and romantic relationships, and work harder than he ever has before, navigating his environment to prove to his colleagues that his talents as a surgeon will save lives.

Season 4 of the medical drama currently ranks as the USA’s top show on Mondays at 10pm, and sits in 3rd place in ABC’s ratings, just behind the twin powers of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Station 19’, so there was not much doubt about the series getting picked up again. This marks the first of ABC’s renewals for currently airing shows this year. Negotiations are going on right now with the cast of ‘Grey’s’ and ‘Station 19’, but a multi-year deal has been signed with showrunner Krista Vernoff, so things are looking to be going in the right directing. Decisions also have to be made on ‘A Million Little Things’, ‘Big Sky’, ‘For Life’, ‘Rebel’, ‘The Rookie’, ‘American Housewife’, ‘Black-ish’, ‘Call Your Mother’, ‘Home Economic’, ‘The Goldbergs’ and ‘Mixed-ish’. As with many medical dramas, the 4th Season returned dealing with life under the cloud of COVID-19, however, it soon switched to a post-COVID world. Alongside Highmore, the drama stars Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park, Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Brown, Christina Chang as Audrey Lim, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews, and Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman. This season also introduced a new set of interns with Summer Brown as Olivia Jackson, Noah Galvin as Asher Wolke, Bria Samoné Henderson as Jordan Allen and Brian Marc as Enrique Guerin.

David Shore serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series. Daniel Dae Kim, Erin Gunn, David Kim and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers.

The Good Doctor‘ Season 4 is currently airing on Sky Witness in the UK and ABC in the USA.
