NBC has released a trailer for its wonderfully wacky sounding upcoming sci-fi La Brea. Yes, I know it’s NBC, which means they’ll probably cancel it after one season, and it hasn’t got a UK broadcaster yet, but I thought there may be a few people interested in taking a look!

From writer/exec producer David Applebaum (‘NCIS: New Orleans’) ‘Le Brea‘ sees a massive sinkhole open in the middle of Los Angeles, pulling hundreds of people and buildings into its depths. Those who fell in find themselves in a mysterious and dangerous primaeval land, where they have no choice but to band together to survive. Meanwhile, the rest of the world desperately seeks to understand what happened. In the search for answers, one family torn apart by this disaster will have to unlock the secrets of this inexplicable event to find a way back to each other.

The drama follows the Harris family, who find themselves ripped in two when the mother and son fall into the hole, whilst the father and daughter are left in LA. Natalie Zea (‘Justified’, ‘The Following’, ‘The Unicorn’) takes the role of Claire, the mother, whilst Jack Martin (‘All Rise’) takes the part of the son, Josh. Eoin Macken (‘Merlin’, The Night Shift’) is set to play the father, Gavin, a recently estranged husband, full of swagger and charm, with Zyra Gorecki taking the part of the daughter, Izzy.

Other cast includes Jon Seda (‘Chicago’ franchise) as Dr. Sam Velez, the father of a teenager, played by Veronica St. Clair (’13 Reasons Why’), who carries himself like the general of an army; Nicholas Gonzalez (‘The Good Doctor’) plays Levi Brooks, an Air Force pilot, and best friend to Gavin, who is recruited to lead the mission to save the people who fell into the sinkhole; Rohan Mirchandaney (‘Hotel Mumbai’) as Scott, a tour guide at the La Brea Tar Pits Museum, who uses humour to make light out of serious situations; Lily Santiago as Veronica. Very rigid and formal, she does her best to comfort and protect her younger sister, Lilly, played by Chloe De Los Santos (‘Tidelands’); Chiké Okonkwo (‘Being Mary Jane’) as Ty Coleman one of the strangers stuck in the hole; And Josh McKenzie (‘Filthy Rich’) as Lucas, a sarcastic drug dealer with a police officer mother.

David Applebaum executive produces with Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, Rachel Kaplan and Ken Woodruff. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio, producing with Keshet Studios.

La Brea‘ premieres on September 28, 2021, at 9pm on NBC in the USA. No news yet on a UK broadcaster (although, as it’s NBC, Sky seems likely). If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when they get a UK premiere date.
