First Official ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Trailer Released

by Dave Elliott

After a very dodgy version of this trailer leaked online a few days ago, Sony has released the first official look at the hugely anticipated ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, which is set to arrive in cinemas this December.

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighbourhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.

Along with Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his MCU role, the trailer confirms a number of other long-rumoured faces for this latest Spidey outing. As we see in the trailer, Doctor Strange‘s spell goes slightly off the rails (due to Peter’s interference) and breaks open the multiverse. This allows for the return of Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius, aka Doctor Octopus, who turns up at the very end of the tease. We also see a Green Goblin pumpkin bomb, accompanied by the familiar laugh of Willem Dafoe. Both of those villains come from Tobey Maguire’s stint in the Spidey suit, so, as it has long been rumoured, it seems extremely likely we are going to get multiple Spider-Men show up in the film.

There are more returns hinted at in the trailer too. In one very short clip, we see yellow lightning, hinting at the possible return of Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon, aka Electro, who comes from Andrew Garfield’s web-slinging era. Whilst Maguire has kept quiet about any possible appearance, Garfield has categorically denied being in the film… But then Tatiana Maslany categorically denied being She-Hulk, and then was announced as She-Hulk, so it’s not uncommon for people involved in MCU projects to deny everything until the last moment.

People we do know are returning include Zendaya as MJ, Jon Favreau as Happy, Marisa Tomei as May, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Jacob Batalon as Ned.

The film is directed by Jon Watts, with a script from Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, based on characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal produce, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, JoAnn Perritano, Rachel O’Connor, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach exec producing.

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is set to swing onto UK cinema screens from Friday, 17th December 2021.
