Sooo… ‘Outlander‘ fans, don’t shoot the messenger (i.e. me), but the series will be moving home in the UK later this year it has been announced. The popular historical/sci-fi drama will be switching from Amazon to STARZPLAY UK at some point later in 2021.
‘Outlander’ follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), who was a married combat nurse from 1945 that was mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 and immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. Stuck in the past, she meets Jamie (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, and a passionate affair is ignited that complicates Claire’s life as she has to reconcile her new life in the past with her knowledge of the future.
For the first 5 Seasons, ‘Outlander’ has aired on Amazon Prime in the UK. However, the series is set to revert over to STARZPLAY UK, the international arm of the STARZ network that air the drama in the USA. No reason has been given, but one would assume either Amazon opted not to pay the fee for it this time around, or the licensing deal ran out, and Starz decided they’d rather have it back on their own network. Either way, it will now mean you need STARZPLAY in the UK to watch it. They have not announced exactly when the show will switch, other than “later this year”, so if you’re halfway through on Amazon, get watching now!
The good news is that ‘Outlander’ has already been renewed for a 7th Season before Season 6 has even aired. The sixth season, which is due to air in early 2022, is set to carry on pulling from Diana Gabaldon’s original novels, as it continues the plot from ‘A Breath of Snow and Ashes’, which was started in season five. The seventh season is set to based (as you might expect) on the seventh book, ‘An Echo in the Bone’.
If you’re wondering how to get STARZPLAY UK, it is available for download on iOS, as well as on a wide range of Android supported devices as an app. You can also get it as an additional Amazon Prime Video Channel, on the Apple TV app, ROKU devices, and selected Smart TVs. It is also available direct to Virgin TV customers as an additional subscription to their package.
