Disney+ Orders Live-Action ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ Series

Disney+ has ordered a live-action series based on Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black’s fantasy novel The Spiderwick Chronicles it has been announced.

The series, based on the beloved, best-selling books, follows the Grace Family – twin brothers Jared and Simon, their sister Mallory and mother Helen – as they move into their dilapidated ancestral home. They begin to unravel a dark mystery about their great-great Uncle who once discovered the secret and sometimes dangerous faerie world.

The original novel series was first published in May 2003, with the release of ‘The Field Guide’ and ‘The Seeing Stone’. That was followed later in 2003 with ‘Lucinda’s Secret’, then ‘The Ironwood Tree’ in April 2004 and ‘The Wrath of Mulgarath’ in September 2004. That was followed by the ‘Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles’ series, along with a number of other accompanying books. The series has sold over 20 million copies, and was previously made into a feature film by Paramount Pictures starring Freddie Highmore in the lead roles as both twins, which grossed over $162.8 million against its $90 million budget.

This new iteration comes from Paramount Television Studios with 20th Television also producing. Aron Eli Coleite, who exec produced Netlfix’s hugely popular adaptation of ‘Locke & Keye’, and served as an exec producer on ‘Star Trek Discovery’, serves as showrunner and exec producer. Book creators Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi also exec produce, alongside Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, and Julie Kane-Ritsch.

We don’t yet know when ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles‘ will go into production, but it will premiere on Disney+ worldwide once it airs. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
