‘Here We Go’: BBC Renews Critically Acclaimed Comedy For 2 More Seasons

The BBC has given two more seasons to BBC Studios Comedy Productions’ critically acclaimed series Here We Go the broadcaster has announced.

Created by and starring Tom Basden (‘After Life’), ‘Here We Go’ follows the highs and lows of the Jessop family as they navigate a combination of life’s everyday challenges – changing careers, keeping the romance alive within a marriage, adopting a healthier lifestyle, kidnapping a dog, destroying a swimming pool and sabotaging a wedding.

Having filmed his family’s disastrous attempt to carve out a holiday in the midst of the pandemic in the 2020 pilot episode, the first season saw youngest son Sam continue to document the Jessop family across the year. Moving back and forward in time, each episode offered an intimate, observed and absurd exposé of a modern British family doing its best to support each other, if accidentally annoying everyone else in the process.

“I’m absolutely delighted to bring the relentlessly chaotic Jessop family back to BBC One for more homespun triumphs and disasters, and can’t wait to work with such a brilliant and hilarious cast once again,” commented creator, Tom Basden.

Alongside Basden, the comedy stars Jim Howick (‘Ghosts’), Katherine Parkinson (‘The IT Crowd’) and Alison Steadman (‘Gavin & Stacey’), with Freya Parks, Jude Collie, Mica Ricketts and Tori Allen-Martin (‘London Kills’).

The series has garnered a lot of critical acclaim for its first season with The Telegraph saying “Don’t be fooled by its ordinary appearance. This is a comic masterpiece”, with The Independent adding “The unassuming, unadventurous – but brilliant – comedy everyone should be watching”.

“Here We Go is a hilarious and refreshing addition to the family sitcom…family,” said Jon Petrie, Director of BBC Comedy. “The glowing response to the first series was enough to justify two more and we can’t wait to see what the Jessops mess up next.”

‘Here We Go’ is produced by BBC Studios Comedy Productions for BBC One and BBC iPlayer and is distributed internationally by BBC Studios. Created by Tom Basden and Executive Produced for BBC Studios by Tom Jordan and Josh Cole. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Gregor Sharp.

All previous episodes of ‘Here We Go‘ are available to watch now on BBC iPlayer. Season 2 will premiere on BBC One and iPlayer later in 2023. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
