‘The Last Frontier’: Apple Orders Drama Starring Jason Clarke From ‘The Blacklist’s Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio
Apple has greenlit ‘The Last Frontier‘, a new 10-episode original drama from creators Jon Bokenkamp (‘The Blacklist’) and Richard D’Ovidio (‘The Call’, ‘The Blacklist: Redemption’) starring and exec produced by Jason Clarke (‘Oppenheimer’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’).
Starring Clarke as U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick, ‘The Last Frontier’ follows Frank, the lone Marshal in charge of Alaska’s quiet, rugged barrens, whose jurisdiction is turned upside-down when a prison transport plane crashes in the remote wilderness, setting free dozens of violent inmates. Tasked with protecting the town he’s vowed to keep safe, he begins to suspect the crash wasn’t an accident, but the first step of a well-crafted plan with international political implications.
Clarke is one of those actors whose face you know but might not be able to place what you saw him in immediately. Most recently he starred in the HBO drama ‘Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty’, and can next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, ‘Oppenheimer’, opposite Cillian Murphy. Previously he has popped up in series such as ‘Catherine the Great’, ‘The Chicago Code’, and ‘Home and Away’ (well, he is Australian…) On film, he has appeared in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘Mudbound’, ‘Pet Sematary’, ‘Terminator Genisys’, ‘White House Down’, and ‘First Man’.
Creator Jon Bokenkamp is probably best known as the co-creator of NBC’s ‘The Blacklist‘, which is about to end on its 10th Season. Richard D’Ovidio worked as a consulting producer on spin-off series ‘The Blacklist: Redemption’, and wrote the screenplay for 2013 movie ‘The Call’, based on a story by himself, Bokenkamp, and Nicole D’Ovidio.
The new series will be produced by Apple Studios. Sam Hargrave (‘Extraction’) will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer alongside Bokenkamp, D’Ovidio and Clarke.
‘The Last Frontier‘ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Apple TV+ worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
