‘Billions’: Damian Lewis To Return In Season 7
Axe is back in ‘Billions‘, as Showtime reveals Damian Lewis will return to the financial drama for some of Season 7.
‘Billions’, which stars Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Paul Giamatti, Corey Stoll and Maggie Siff, is currently filming its seventh season in NYC, and is set to return later this year. Damian Lewis previously was co-lead playing Bobby “Axe” Axelrod in the series up to season five, when Stoll’s Mike Prince acquired Axe Captial from the billionaire before he fled to Switzerland to escape the legal reach of Giamatti’s Chuck Rhoades.
Lewis was spotted on-set around the Tower of London last year with Maggie Siff (Wendy Rhoades) and David Costabile (Mike “Wags” Wagner), sparking rumours that he may be about to return to the drama. Showtime has now officially confirmed that it isn’t just a guest spot, and Lewis will be in six of the twelve episodes of the new season.
As we head into Season 7, alliances are turned on their heads. Old wounds are weaponized. Loyalties are tested. Betrayal takes on epic proportions. Enemies become wary friends. And Bobby Axelrod returns, as the stakes grow from Wall Street to the world.
Whilst the following is complete conjecture, with Axe now seemingly in London, it does bring up the interesting possibility that Lewis could headline one of the spin-off series (‘Billions: Maimi’, ‘Billions: London’, ‘Millions’, and ‘Trillions’) which Showtime recently revealed were in development. Following the tragic passing of his wonderful force-of-nature wife, Helen McCrory, in 2021, Lewis understandably wanted to spend more time in the UK with his young family. With one of the spin-offs set in the UK capital, that does leave the intriguing possibility that Lewis could lead, or be part of, the potential ‘Billions: London’ spin-off and still stay close to home. We will have to wait and see.
‘Billions’ previously aired on Sky Atlantic in the UK under their overall deal for Showtime series. However, that deal has now ended, so it is likely the seventh season and any of the spin-offs (should they go to series) will air on Paramount+ in the UK.
