HBO Orders ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel

HBO are continuing to expand the ‘Game Of Thrones’ franchise as they announce A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, a new prequel series based on George R. R. Martin’s ‘Dunk and Egg’ novellas.

A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

In an interesting twist, this prequel series will be written and executive produced the man himself, George R.R. Martin, alongside ‘House of the Dragon’ producer Ira Parker. Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis are also set to executive produce.

‘House of the Dragon’ itself has just begun production on season two at Leavesden Studios, which sees Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham all return to the drama.

In addition to these two shows, a spinoff sequel series, which would follow Jon Snow’s adventures North of the Wall, with Kit Harington reprising his title role, is also still in development at HBO, although not yet ordered to series.

There is no casting in place for the strangely long-titled ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Night’ or any idea of a premiere date. On a side note, it’s nice to see George has managed to find yet something else to distract him from actually finishing writing ‘The Winds of Winter’

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Night‘ will air on HBO in the USA, and should air on Sky Atlantic in the UK under their overall carriage deal for HBO shows. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
