Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack DLC & Free Update 1.14 Announced
Frontier Developments has announced the Arid Animal Pack DLC for their fabulous building/management game Planet Zoo, alongside another free update which expands the base game, which will land later this June. Here’s what to expect in the Arid Animal Pack and Free Update 1.14.
Arid Animal Pack
Addax – Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack
Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack introduces eight impressive new species to the game, each of which has adapted to some of the world’s harshest, driest climates. First, we (finally!!) have the Dromedary Camel, instantly distinguished by its singular hump. This is something which has been long-requested by fans, so I’m really happy to see it in-game at last! Next, the African Crested Porcupine, with its trademark head crest and spiky quills, along with the majestic Black Rhino, the elegant Addax, the stripe-legged Somali Wild Ass, the endearing Sand Cat, and the sprightly Dama Gazelle. There is also a new Exhibit Animal in the form of the venomous Desert Horned Viper.
Dromedary Camel – Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack
Not only has the Dromedary Camel now made it into the game, but also comes with a new behaviour mechanic, which is part of the free base-game update – spitting! The new behaviour will allow a number of animals to be able to spit through some of the fences, and you might even see them attempting to spit through glass walls. Spitting has also been added to both the Bactrian Camel and Llamas.
Sand Cat – Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack
In terms of the other behaviours, visitors have the opportunity to admire the agile and lively Sand Cat as it creatively interacts with enrichment items like the Rubbing Pads and Cardboard Box. They can also listen to the distinctive braying of the Somali Wild Ass, as they communicate with one another. Additionally, visitors may catch sight of the African Crested Porcupine, finding rest near its burrow, and observe its notable quills being raised when it senses caution.
Campaign Mode – Planet Zoo: Arid Animal Pack
Players will also be happy to hear, the Arid Animal Pack DLC comes with a brand new Campaign Mode scenario. Prolific socialite Tiffany Summers arrives in the Arabian Desert and is determined to prove she can handle the heat. Players must work to transform the plot of land she received from her father into a magnificent animal oasis in preparation for the park’s grand opening.
Free Update 1.14
Staff Flexicolour
Outside of the Arid Animal Pack DLC, the free base-game Update 1.14 brings with it a range of extras, enhancements, and quality-of-life updates, alongside the previously mentioned “spitting” behaviour. These include:
Staff Flexicolour – As a new season arrives, it’s time to refresh your wardrobe! Staff Flexicolour enables you to personalize the colour combinations of your staff’s uniforms. This feature opens up a world of new possibilities, granting you the freedom to create unique colour schemes for each staff member via their individual info panel. Alternatively, you can select distinct colour variations for different staff types using the Staff Overview screen, providing you with a quick overview of their locations in your zoo.
Scenic Camera Mode – Simply position the camera in your preferred spot and choose from a range of pre-set camera behaviours, such as spin, ellipse, spiral in, and spiral out. Then, fine-tune the zoom level and camera movement speed to enjoy cinematic perspectives of specific areas within your zoo or capture panoramic views of the entire zoo, according to your preference
Cinematic Route Editor – With this tool, you can enter digital animation mode, granting you the ability to insert specific keyframes throughout your park. These keyframes can be interconnected or separated to form a distinct and individualized path for the camera to smoothly transition through. You have the freedom to add as many keyframes as you desire, with each one being fully customizable. Adjust the camera’s position, rotation, focus, zoom, or seamlessly transition to the next keyframe. Once you’ve created your keyframe animation, you can enhance it with additional route settings. These settings include options to hide the user interface during playback, loop the animation, or modify the overall speed. It’s an incredibly dynamic method to showcase your painstaking efforts to the world.
