Prime Video has released a trailer which gives some indication of when we may see some of their new and returning Original series including ‘Reacher‘ Season 2, ‘The Boys’ spin-off ‘Gen V‘ & Donald Glover’s ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘ series dropping in 2023.
‘Gen V‘ – September 2023
‘Gen V’ welcomes you to Godolkin University, a safe space for you to thrive… Set at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes (run by Vought International), ‘Gen V’ is an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games – with all the heart, satire, and raunch of ‘The Boys’.
The new series stars Jaz Sinclair (‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’), Chance Perdomo (‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’), Lizze Broadway (‘Here and Now’), Shelley Conn (‘Bridgerton’), Maddie Phillips (‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’), London Thor (‘Shameless’), Derek Luh (‘Shining Vale’), Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger (‘The Staircase’, ‘The Terminal List’), Sean Patrick Thomas (‘For All Mankind’), Marco Pigossi (‘Invisible City’). Clancy Brown (‘Dexter: New Blood’, ‘Billions’), Alexander Calvert (‘Supernatural’) and Jason Ritter (‘Kevin (Probably) Saves the World’, ‘Raising Dion’). The series also features guest appearances from Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett) and P.J. Byrne (Adam Bourke) reprising their roles from ‘The Boys’.
‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘ – November 2023
‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ is a series based on the original movie, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as a bored upper-middle-class married couple who were surprised to learn that they are both assassins. Donald Glover (Atlanta) and Maya Erskine (PEN15) take the lead for the series, which is co-created by Glover and Francesca Sloane (Atlanta, Fargo).
The series also stars Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, and Paul Dano.
‘Reacher‘ Season 2 – December 2023
‘Reacher’ Season 2 continues to follow Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson – Titans, Smallville), a veteran military police investigator who has reentered civilian life. Reacher is a drifter, carrying no phone and the barest of essentials as he travels the country and explores the nation he once served. The second season is based on “Bad Luck and Trouble”, the 11th book in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novel series, and sees the titular character plunged into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends.
Alongside Ritchson, the second season stars Robert Patrick (Peacemaker), Serinda Swan (Coroner), Shain Sipos (Outer Range), Domenick Lombardozzi (Boardwalk Empire), Ty Victor Olsson (Wynonna Earp), Ferdinand Kingsley (Victoria), Josh Blacker (See), Al Sapienza (Suits), Dean McKenzie (Arrow), Luke Bilyk (Good Witch), Shannon Kook-Chun (The 100), Edsson Morales and Andres Collantes.
In addition to highlighting some vague premiere dates for these Original shows, the “sizzle reel” also features a number of shows for which we already had premiere dates, including ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty‘ Season 2, which premieres tomorrow (Friday, 14th July 2023); ‘Good Omens‘ Season 2, which premieres Friday, 28th July 2023; And ‘The Wheel of Time‘ Season 2, which premieres Friday, 1st September 2023; Plus a number of original movies.
