‘Bodies’: Netflix Releases A Trailer & Set October Premiere Date For Crime Drama With A Twist

Based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has released a trailer for Bodies, an interesting-sounding limited series “crime procedural with a twist” based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer, starring Stephen Graham, Shira Haas, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Kyle Soller, and Amaka Okafor.

The series follows four detectives in four different eras of London who find themselves investigating the same murder – an unidentified body in Whitechapel – uncovering a conspiracy spanning 150 years.

The four detectives across time are 1890s overachiever Edmond Hillinghead, played by Kyle Soller (‘Andor’, ‘Poldark’); Dashing 1940s adventurer Karl Whiteman played by Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (‘Wolf Hall’, ‘The Great’, ‘The Power’); Kickass female 2010s Detective Sergeant Shahara Hasan played by Amaka Okafor (‘The Responder’); And DC Maplewood played by Shira Haas (‘Captain America: Brave New World’, ‘Unorthodox’, ‘Asia’), an amnesiac from post-apocalyptic 2050, who brings a haunting perspective. Alongside them, Stephen Graham (‘Boiling Point’, ‘Line of Duty’, ‘Help’, ‘Save Me’, ‘This Is England’) stars as Elias Mannix, described as a “central character to the story”…

The eight-part series is adapted by Paul Tomalin (‘No Offence’, ‘Shameless’, ‘Torchwood’) based on Si Spencer’s Vertigo graphic novel of the same name. Marco Kreutzpaintner (‘The Lazarus Project’, ‘The Collini Case’) and Haolu Wang (‘Doctor Who’) share directing duties, with Kreutzpaintner taking episodes 1-4, and Wang directing 5-8. Moonage Pictures (‘Obsession’, ‘Curfew’, ‘The Pursuit of Love’) produces the series.

Bodies‘ premieres Thursday, 19th October 2023 on Netflix worldwide.
