Vikings: Valhalla, the sequel series to Michael Hirst’s epic History Channel saga from creator Jeb Stuart, will end with its 3rd Season in 2024 Netflix has announced. This is a “natural creative conclusion” according to Stuart.

Set over a thousand years ago in the early 11th century, ‘Vikings: Valhalla’ chronicles the heroic adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – the legendary explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), his fiery and headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter).

“I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald, and Freydís,” said Stuart. “I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today, and we have done just that. I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes.”

In some “first-look” photos of Season 3, Leif, Harald, and Freydís are still not out of the woods following the blood-soaked events of Season 2. However, a long-awaited reunion does appear to be on the cards for the trio. The final season will also introduce a couple of new characters, and some actors who will be familiar. Leif and Freydís’ father, Erik the Red, is set to make an appearance, played by none other than ‘ER’ and ‘Timeless’ star, Goran Visnjic. This season also introduces Maniakes, a fearless Byzantine general who answers only to the Emir, played by Florian Munteanu (‘Creed’ franchise, ‘Shang-Chi’).

“When we started this project five years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying,” adds Stuart. “Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense storywise for our Leif, Freydís, and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season. And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history.”

From showrunner and executive producer Jeb Stuart, Valhalla is also executive produced by Morgan O’Sullivan, Michael Hirst, Sheila Hockin, Steve Stark, James Flynn, John Weber, Sherry Marsh and Alan Gasmer, Paul Buccieri, and also stars Bradley Freegard, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, David Oakes, Laura Berlin and Caroline Henderson.

Vikings: Valhalla‘ Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date, but will air in 2024 on Netflix. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
