‘Gavin & Stacey’ Set To Return For 2024 Christmas Special

The hit sitcom returns for another outing

by Dave Elliott

With James Corden back on UK soil following the end of his eight-year run on ‘The Late Late Show’ in the USA, the inevitable has come to pass… ‘Gavin & Stacey’ is getting a new Christmas Special according to reports.

The British sitcom, written by Corden and Ruth Jones, follows Gavin, an ordinary boy from England, and Stacey, an ordinary girl from Wales. We see, through their families, their friends and their differences, that there’s no such thing as ‘ordinary’ after all.

The last time the show graced our airwaves was 2019 for their previous Christmas Special. That (SPOILERS) ended on a cliffhanger, with Nessa (Jones) proposing to Smithy (Corden). The new special looks set to bring back Matthew Horne and Joanna Page as the titular characters, along with Jones, Corden, Rob Brydon, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb and Julia Davis.

The BAFTA-winning series originally ran from 2007 to 2010, before returning in 2019 for a one-off Christmas Special. That 2019 episode was the most-watched show in a decade landing more than 18 million viewers, so it should come as no surprise the BBC wants another one.

We should make it clear that this Special has not yet been officially announced by the BBC and is described as “in the works”, with plans to shoot it over the Summer according to various reputable reports, so it does seem likely to be happening.

‘Gavin & Stacey’ is produced by Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow Productions, alongside Ruth Jones’ Tidy Productions and Fulwell 73, which is co-owned by Corden, with Gabe and Ben Turner, Leo Pearlman, and Ben Winston.

Assuming the reports are correct, the ‘Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special’ will premiere over the 2024 festive period.
