Netflix released a trailer for the new London-based superpower drama Supacell from creator, director and showrunner Rapman, which premieres on the streaming service this June.

The drama follows a group of five ordinary people who unexpectedly develop superpowers. They have little in common except for one thing: they are all Black South Londoners. It is down to one man, Michael Lasaki, to bring them all together in order to save the woman he loves.

The series stars Tosin Cole (Doctor Who, Hollyoaks, 61st Street) as Michael, Nadine Mills (Sliced and The Weekend) as Sabrina, Eric Kofi Abrefa (Blue Story, BMF) as Andre, Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan, The Winter King, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe) as Ray, Calvin Demba (The Rig, Life, Micky and the Bear) as Rodney, Josh Tedeku (Moonhaven, A Town Called Malice) as Tazer, Adelayo Adedayo (The Responder, Timewasters) as Dionne, Yasmin Monet Prince (Hanna, Then You Run) as Veronica,  Rayxia Ojo (Harry Potter and The Cursed Child – West End Production, Call The Midwife) as Sharleen and Giacomo Mancini (Top Boy, Orthodox) as Spud.

Rapman is the showrunner, creator and lead director of the six-part series, helming episodes 1, 2 and 6. Sebastian Thiel (Dreaming Whilst Black, Riches) directs episodes 3-5. Rapman is also the Executive Producer alongside Anna Ferguson and Steve Searle for Netflix. Mouktar Mohammed and Henrietta Lee of New Wave are Executive Producer and Associate Producer respectively.

Along with creating the drama, Rapman also set a scheme to allow Black creatives the opportunity to break into the TV industry through the “Supacell Six” scheme. The initiative, founded by Rapman, New Wave and Netflix gave six chosen candidates the opportunity to grow in their chosen field through shadowing crew, access to experts in their field and additional upskilling courses. The Supacell Six included Jessica Magaye, Ricardo McCleary-Campbell, Saraphina Mattis, Melissa Simon-Hartman, Cleo Young and Micheal Ademilua.

Supacell‘ Season 1 does not have an exact premiere date but will air on Netflix worldwide in June 2024. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
