Disney+ has released the Force and lightsaber-filled trailer for the highly-anticipated series Star Wars: The Acolytewhich premieres this June on the streaming service.

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….

The series stars Amandla Stenberg (Dear Evan Hansen, Bodies Bodies Bodies), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game, Hunt), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Dafne Keen (Logan, His Dark Materials), Charlie Barnett ( Russian Doll, YOU), Jodie Turner-Smith (The Last Ship, Sex Education), Rebecca Henderson (Single Drunk Female, Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones, 1917), Joonas Suotamo (Star Wars sequels Chewbacca although he will be playing a different Wookie here), and Carrie-Anne Moss (Jessica Jones, The Matrix films).

This is the first TV show or film to be set in the Star Wars “High Republic Era”, although this time has been covered extensively in the “canon” novels and comicbooks. Running from around 500 BBY to 100 BBY (BBY – Before the Battle of Yavin), the Galactic Republic was said to be at its height, and was considered an era of peace in the galaxy. This “golden age” saw the Jedi Order spread far and wide across the galaxy as the Republic expanded and explored the Outer Rim Territories.

The Acolyte comes from creator and showrunner Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), who also serves as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers, and Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson are producing.

Star Wars: The Acolyte‘ premieres Wednesday, 5th June 2024 on Disney+ worldwide.
