ITVX Renews Hit Liverpool Comedy ‘G’wed’ For Seasons 2 & 3

by Dave Elliott

ITVX has renewed its hit Liverpool-based comedy G’Wed for two more seasons after season one has been streamed six million times since launch.

‘G’Wed’ delves into the working class culture of “surviving with a sense of humour”. The distinctive voice of Liverpool and the lived experience of the kids from the city will be at the heart of this comedy, tackling big issues like grief, sex, diversity and class differences with a wicked sense of humour.

Reece (Dylan Thomas-Smith), Christopher (Jake Kenny-Byrne), Connor (Max Ainsworth), Ted (Dominic Murphy), Mo (Zak Douglas), Aimee (Amber Harrison) and Mia-Louise (Gemma Barraclough) are back to portray the lovable scousers as we explore the themes of consent, age gap relationships and the acceptable way to make money while still at school.

Not only has season one been streamed six million times since launch, becoming ITVX’s biggest comedy since ‘Changing Ends’, but it also landed lead actor Dylan Thomas-Smith a nomination for “Breakthrough Talent” in this year’s Edinburgh TV Awards.

“It is great to see that Gwed has resonated with our audiences across ITVX, ITV1 and ITV2,” said Nana Hughes, Head of Comedy ITV. “Danny Kenny’s writing had us crying with laughter one second, crying real tears the next and then back to laughter. And the hugely talented cast brought so much charm and cheek to the show, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Liverpool for a second and third series when Gwed returns in 2025.”

The series is produced by Golden Path Productions Ltd and written by Liverpool native Danny Kenny. The Executive Producer is Mario Stylianides.

“Comedy really is back in the building,” adds Mario Stylianides, Executive Producer at Golden Path Productions Ltd. “There was so much love for G’wed from audiences far and wide. It’s great that we’ll get the chance to spend even more time exploring the joyful complicated lives of our Scouse characters.”

G’wed‘ Season 1 is available to watch on ITVX right now. Season 2 will premiere in 2025. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
