After ten years and two dramas, Titus Welliver is scaling back his workload as Harry Bosch as Amazon announces Season 3 of ‘Bosch: Legacy‘ will be the last, although the franchise will live on.
Welliver first took on the role of Harry Bosch in 2014, based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, in the Prime Video drama ‘Bosch’, which ran for seven seasons. Then in 2022, Amazon Freevee announced ‘Bosch: Legacy’, which followed the former homicide detective as he moved on to a new chapter as a private investigator.
“For 10 years, Bosch and Bosch: Legacy have been two of our most defining series for Prime Video, Freevee and Amazon MGM Studios,” commented Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios. “They are a testament to the enduring power of the storytelling universe that Michael Connelly built for the fans. We are proud of the impact these series have made, and we are excited that Michael, Titus, Henrik and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell in the Bosch world with the final season of Bosch: Legacy, our new Ballard series and more to come.”
As Sanders mentions there, this is not the end of the road for the ‘Bosch’ franchise. They are already producing the “Untitled Renee Ballard” series which stars Maggie Q as Connelly’s cold case detective, who will pop up initially in the 3rd Season of ‘Bosch: Legacy’, with a full series landing in Autumn 2025. There has also been talk of a “J Edgar” series, based around Bosch’s former partner, played on ‘Bosch’ by Jamie Hector, although things have been a little quieter regarding the development of that show whilst the focus on the “Ballard” spin-off.
Even though Welliver might not be leading the show following the conclusion of ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Season 3, it would seem it won’t be the last we see of the character. “I am so proud of what we have accomplished with this show,” said author and exec producer Michael Connelly. “Ten years ago I asked Titus Welliver if he could stick with Harry Bosch for five seasons, and he said he could do it forever. Well, five became 10, and the character, thanks to Titus, will live forever in the hearts of viewers and in the streaming world as the detective who knows that everybody counts or nobody counts. The good news here is that we have not seen the last of Harry Bosch. As in the books, Bosch is part of the Renée Ballard world, and I can’t wait for the next chapter to open.”
