Paramount+ has released a trailer and set a December premiere date for ‘Dexter: Original Sin‘, the prequel drama to the original show, which chronicles America’s favourite serial killer in training.
Set in 1991 Miami, ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone) stars as Dexter Morgan, alongside Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) as Harry Morgan, Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, Devils) as Aaron Spencer, Molly Brown (Senior Year) as Debra Morgan, James Martinez (Love, Victor, Wolf Pack) as Angel Batista, Christina Milian (Grandfathered, The Oath) as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu (The Terror, The Blacklist) as Vince Masuka and Reno Wilson (Good Girls, Mike & Molly) as Bobby Watt. Sarah Michelle Gellar guest stars as Tanya Martin, the CSI Chief at the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter Morgan’s new boss. Michael C. Hall returns to the franchise as the inner voice of the young Dexter.
This is one of two new ‘Dexter’ series with the other, ‘Dexter: Resurrection‘, being a sequel to ‘Dexter: New Blood’ and a continuation of the “present-day” story. That will actually star Michael C. Hall, although, if you watched ‘New Blood’, you might be a little confused as to how… We don’t know either, but it’ll be interesting to find out!
Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie) returns as showrunner and executive producer. ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ is executive produced by Phillips and produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Executive producers also include Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones), Michael C. Hall (‘Dexter’), Mary Leah Sutton (Resident Evil), Tony Hernandez (Emily In Paris), Lilly Burns (Russian Doll), with the series being produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis (The Lincoln Lawyer). Reuniting with Slater is Michael Lehmann (Heathers), who serves as directing executive producer.
For Showtime Studios, the series is being creatively overseen by Gary Levine and Urooj Sharif with production supervised by Tara Power. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Paramount+ markets.
