At the red carpet premiere for Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s ‘Monster‘ anthology series, Netflix revealed Season 3 of the true-crime drama will star ‘Sons Of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam in the lead role.
‘Monster’ is a biographical crime anthology drama created by Ryan Murphy. The first season focused on notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. The second season, which is released this week, probes the lives of the Menendez brothers, convicted of the brutal 1989 murders of their parents in Beverly Hills.
Season three will see Charlie Hunnam star as notorious killer Ed Gein. Known as the “Butcher of Plainfield”, Gein was a grave robber who admitted to two murders but is believed to have been connected to a string of other unsolved murder cases. He got his “nickname” because the investigation of his home revealed collections of human organs and clothes made out of human body parts…
Hunnam is probably best known for his role as Jax Teller in the FX series ‘Sons of Anarchy’. More recently he’s starred in Netflix’s ‘Rebel Moon – Part One’, Guy Richie’s ‘The Gentlemen’, and Apple series ‘Shantaram’. He is next due to star in Prime Video’s comic book adaptation ‘Criminal‘.
Before we get to Season 3, the second season of ‘Monster’ airs this week, which is titled ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’. This follows Lyle and Erik Menendez, two brothers who fatally shot their parents in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. During their trials, the brothers cited years of abuse as the reason for murdering their parents. However, prosecutors argued that their motive was to get their hands on the family fortune.
Season 2 stars Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men, Being the Ricardos) as José Menendez, a music industry executive and Erik and Lyle’s father; Chloë Sevigny (FEUD: Capote vs. the Swans) as Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, the Menendez family matriarch; Nicholas Chavez (General Hospital) as Lyle Menendez, the eldest of the Menendez brothers; Cooper Koch as Erik Menendez, the younger brother; Nathan Lane (The Birdcage, The Producers) as Dominick Dunne, an investigative journalist who covers the trial for Vanity Fair; Ari Graynor (I’m Dying Up Here, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) as Leslie Abramson, defence attorney and lead counsel for Erik; Leslie Grossman (Love, Victor) as Judalon Smyth, a former patient and mistress of Erik Menendez’s therapist, Dr. Jerome Oziel, who is played by Dallas Roberts (Law & Order, The Walking Dead); Jason Butler Harner (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Les Zoeller, detective in charge of the Menendez murders; And Enrique Murciano (Tell Me Your Secrets, Without a Trace) as Carlos Baralt, a professor, and lawyer, who is also Lyle & Erik’s uncle, and the executor of the Menendez will.
The series is written and created by Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan who serve as showrunners. David McMillan (Dexter: New Blood), Reilly Smith (American Horror Story), and Todd Kubrak (Pose, Hollywood) also write. Murphy and Brennan executive produce with Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, David McMillan, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin and Javier Bardem.
